Summary
For over 160 years, the Jewish Community Center of New Orleans (JCC) has promoted and ensured the well-being of the Jewish community, while instilling an understanding of Judaism and its heritage in a diverse and multi-cultural environment where everyone can enjoy, learn, experience, and share in quality activities.

The JCC is a treasured and highly respected community institution which serves multiple generations from the entire New Orleans community.

The JCC is a leader in early childhood education; operates a state-of-the-art sports and wellness center, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor pools, and summer day camps; offers Jewish cultural arts programming, and so much more.

In addition to its recently expanded main building located in historic Uptown, the JCC also operates a satellite fitness center, outdoor pool, and summer camp in suburban Metairie.

The New Orleans JCC seeks a CEO who is an exemplary leader, providing strategic vision and direction for the organization, while also managing all aspects of agency operations.

This individual will possess excellent business acumen with adept financial skills to oversee a $7.5 million annual operating budget and have a proven track record of inspiring and motivating staff as a high performing team.

The CEO will lead the JCC to reimagine agency-wide programming beyond the pandemic as the premier destination for Jewish life in New Orleans.

The CEO must be a highly accomplished relationship builder, comfortable with all levels of constituencies from the most seasoned lay leaders to new young leadership, professional staff, general members, and those not yet engaged.

A forward thinking, energetic individual, the CEO will promote a culture of innovation and inclusion and be a change agent to create ongoing excitement for the JCC and the community.

Demonstrates Skill in Operational Management

The CEO is responsible for day-to-day management of the JCC and will establish short and long-range goals that are strategic, programmatic, fiscally responsible, and align with the JCC’s mission.

Knowledge and management skills in plant oversight, marketing, and programming, as well as visibility and skilled responsiveness to membership is essential.

The CEO will be decisive in action, adaptable, and accountable.

Presents Visionary and Strategic Leadership
The CEO will create and clearly articulate an exciting new vision identifying key strategic post-pandemic opportunities which focus on the JCC’s mission.

Actively engaging Jewish and secular community organizations, the CEO will work to support existing collaborative programs and envision new ways to partner together.

The CEO must see the big picture and effectively manage current issues, while thinking about evolving business models to best serve the community in both the near and long-term.

Displays Financial Acumen
The CEO will develop a realistic annual operating budget in partnership with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

Using financial statements to guide and oversee agency performance, the CEO must remain flexible, making necessary changes to ensure financial stability.

The CEO will oversee all financial matters including annual and long-term budgeting, ongoing financial performance, and financial strategy.

Displays Sound Staff Management Skills
The CEO will lead, coach, attract and retain a high-performance senior management team.

The CEO will create a positive culture of productivity, communication, collaboration, and accountability.

The CEO will foster an environment where staff feel they can take risks in aspiring toward excellence in all areas of programming and will challenge staff to continually improve their lines of business, while growing professionally.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of strategic leadership and management experience in JCCs, Jewish communal organizations, business, and/or non-profit sectors.

  An advanced degree is preferred.

• Proven ability to build strong and lasting partnerships with Jewish, corporate, government, and other organizations, and engage key stakeholders and audiences.
• Ability to develop and drive both short
  – and long-term strategies for the organization, which are fiscally responsible and align with the JCC’s mission.
• Excellence in organizational management with the ability to move the agency toward continuous improvement.
• Proven experience in developing a high-performance team which meets and exceeds planned outcomes.
• Knowledge and understanding of Jewish culture, practices, and tradition.
• Experience with “best in class” JCC programming, for those in preschool through senior adults.
• Proven results in past fundraising efforts, specifically with major donors.
• Dynamic, empathetic, and inspirational leadership skills to serve as the internal and public face of the organization.
• Appreciation and commitment to diversity; works easily with people of all backgrounds and ages.
• Past success in working with a board of directors, committees, and volunteers, with the ability to enhance existing relationships and develop new ones.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to understand financial data and make fiscally responsible decisions.
• Outstanding communication skills.

About the New Orleans JCC
The JCC has a long rich history which dates back to 1855 when it began as the Young Men’s Hebrew and Literary Society.

Its current home, an icon on St.

Charles Avenue in historic Uptown, is an 81,000 sq.

ft.

building occupying an entire city block.

In 2018, as the City of New Orleans celebrated its tricentennial, the JCC celebrated a successful $9M capital campaign and dedication of its newly expanded Uptown building.

This includes a 14,000 sq.

ft.

expansion and renovation.

The JCC is a financially sound organization with an engaged and supportive board representing a diverse group of community leaders.

The JCC provides a full and well-rounded set of programs serving a wide variety of ages and interests.

The Early Childhood Education program (Pre-School and Pre-K) has a capacity of 175 students; summer day camp serves over 400 children; a state-of-the-art Sports and Wellness Center includes the following studios: Pilates; Yoga, Group Exercise; Indoor Cycling and Personal Training; a indoor therapy and teaching pool; outdoor lap pool, family pool and toddler splash pool.

An Alzheimer’s Respite Program meets 3 times per week; senior programs occur daily; and cultural arts events including movies, book talks, and lectures round out the diverse and well-attended programs.

In 1986, a satellite facility was established in Metairie to better serve the membership in that area.

Owned by the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans, the Metairie facility shares space with Federation and the Jewish Community Day School.

Its focus is on fitness and a robust summer day camp.

About the New Orleans Jewish Community

The pre-Hurricane Katrina (2005) Jewish community totaled approximately 12,500 individuals.

As roughly 20% of the Jewish population moved to other communities after the storm, today the Jewish community is comprised of approximately 10,000 individuals.

Jewish life features two Orthodox shuls, one conservative synagogue, three reform temples, well as thriving Tulane Hillel, Jewish Community Day School, Slater Torah Academy (Chabad), and available kosher food options.

For many, the JCC is their first point of entry into Jewish life in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Jewish community is warm and welcoming it takes no time to become a part of the community and a true New Orleanian.
