Job Description
CAREGIVER
Reports to: Case Manager / Client Services Manager
Full or Part Time: PRN (as needed)
Exempt or Non-exempt: Non-exempt
Summary
The Caregiver is an important member of the Visiting Angels team who plays a vital role in the provision of
home health, personal care and companionship services to Visiting Angels’ clients.

Visiting Angels’ clients are
individuals who are unable to care for themselves due to age or infirmity.

The Caregiver works primarily in the
clients’ homes to support and comfort clients who need assistance in order to remain in their homes.

The
Caregiver works cooperatively with the client, the client’s family and friends, and other Visiting Angels staff.
Required Qualifications
And Skills
Valid current Home Health Aide, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Geriatric Nursing Assistant
certification
Valid current CPR and First Aid certifications High school diploma or equivalent Valid current driver’s license and reliable personal transportation Ability to read, write, communicate, and understand directions in English Physical ability to lift and transfer clients Ability to contribute to a calm environment for the client and instill a confidence in Visiting Angels’
ability to meet the client’s needs
Enthusiasm for working with elderly and disabled people Ability to work professionally, cooperatively, and effectively with others
Duties and Responsibilities
Attend required case conferences, continuing education, meetings, and in-services Assist therapists in non-skilled treatments essential to the client Assist with medications that are ordinarily self-administered in accordance with State guidelines Prepare and serve normal meals for the client Assist client with personal care, including eating, bathing, oral hygiene, toileting, and dressing Assist client with ambulation, such as moving in and out of bed or wheelchair Assist client with household chores essential to the client’s safety and care at home such as tidying,
dusting and vacuuming rooms used by client; washing client’s dishes; washing and changing sheets on
client’s bed; washing client’s personal laundry; listing needed supplies; shopping for items needed by
client.
Provide companionship and support to Visiting Angels’ clients Properly document all services provided each shift and submit documentation in accordance with
Visiting Angels’ policies
Observe clients and report to supervisor unusual physical conditions and/or behavioral changes Assess and report to supervisor any unsafe or abusive situation Transport clients in accordance with Visiting Angels’ polices Take blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration as directed by nurse Comply with Visiting Angels’ employment policies Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Job Limitations
Caregivers may not:
Administer medications.

Perform services that require the knowledge, training, or skills of a licensed nurse, therapist, physician,
or other professional.
Perform general household work for more than 10% of the Caregiver’s total weekly hours worked.
General household work does not directly benefit the client.

Examples include cleaning refrigerators or
ovens, tidying areas not used by the client, trash removal, and washing dishes or laundry for members of
the household other than the client.

Visual observation to assess and evaluate clients Frequent oral conversations, in person and on the telephone Ability to hear or otherwise receive and understand information Ability to view a computer monitor for extended periods of time Frequent and continuous clarity of vision at distances greater than 20 feet

Frequent interaction with clients, family members, and field staff members Continuous alertness, precision, and concentration to ensure accuracy Attention to detail Ability to work efficiently and accurately under deadlines, interpersonal pressure and other pressurefilled

Environmental Demands
Frequent travel in all kinds of weather Frequent exposure to low-level noise Occasional extended hours, including evening, weekends and holidays as needed
