Bench Jeweler / Apprentice Jeweler – Signet Jewelers – ABQ Uptown – Albuquerque, NM

This is a Full-time position in Albuquerque, NM posted August 1, 2021.

Job Summary:

Our driving mission within a Design & Service Center is the Care, Repair and Custom Design and Creation of jewelry by supporting the Kay, Zales and Jared banners and to provide excellent service to our customers.

As a Jeweler, you will call upon your creativity and artistic ability to design and service jewelry.

Under supervision from the Design & Service Center Manager, the Jeweler is required to perform repair and custom fabrication of jewelry to Signet’s quality standards as defined by their jeweler level.

Must execute production goals in a fast-paced environment.

 Jewelers will maintain Signet’s quality expectation and become QC certified within 30 days.

They will assume responsibility over findings, gold stock, diamonds, track daily scrap levels, and monitor jewelers log box.

Attain personal goals by developing performance skills through company training and mentoring programs to move your skills to the next level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Adhere to Company policies and procedures in support of the Company’s business objectives, Signet’s Core Values and Signet’s “Customer first” philosophy.

Responsible for adhering to assigned schedule.

Regularly scheduled attendance is an essential function of this job.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as required Ability to pass a bench test for assessment and quality assurance purposes Perform other essential duties as assigned
 Jeweler (C) – Production Jeweler:
Must be able to perform all followings tasks in addition to Jeweler Apprentice level duties 2-4 years experience Must complete a minimum of 3 jobs per hour Reshape rings Apply different style of finishes on rings Size rings up or down varying in different sizes or width in gold, silver Half shank rings varying in sizes and width   Solder rings together.

Knowledge of semi-precious colored stones  Set and tighten melee stones Solder and service all styles of bracelets and chains (clasps) Ring and Flat engraving Re-tipping of prongs (basic round prongs) Introduction to center stone setting Laser work if available Changing out earring posts Black antiquing
Jeweler (B) – Bench Jeweler:
Must be able to perform all followings tasks in addition to Apprentice and Jeweler (C) level duties 3-6 years experience Must complete a minimum 2.5 jobs per hour Rebuild prongs (including v prongs) Complete Head n’ Sets of any shape stones including fancy cuts Size Platinum rings
Jeweler (A)
– Advance Bench Jeweler:
Must be able to perform all followings tasks in addition to Apprentice, and Jeweler (C)&(B) level duties 5-8 years experience Must complete a minimum 2 jobs per hour Channel setting of any shape stone (colored stones or diamonds) Rebuilding channel on merchandise Baguette Work Bezel set work Pave Blank mounting completion Advanced jewelry services Responsible for maintaining daily jeweler production at a high efficiency rate
Jeweler (AA)
– Advanced Custom Jeweler:
Must be able to perform all followings tasks in addition to Apprentice, and Jeweler (C),(B)&(A) level duties 8+ years experience Must complete minimum 1.5 production level jobs per hour (if advance custom work is not available) Ability to carve wax or CAD Casting Bead setting Hand Fabrication (gold, platinum) Pave Flush Setting Advanced platinum work Advanced baguette setting Advanced jewelry services
Qualifications:
Jewelers must meet Signet’s production and quality standards Must follow Signet’s core values Experience in jewelry field Professional appearance and courteous manner Self-starter Team oriented Creativity and strong problem-solving skills Proficient with bench tools Strong time management skills Reliability
Education and/or Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required Previous experience in the jewelry industry and previous bench experience GIA certifications (preferred) Preferred degrees would be BA, BFA, MA, MFA Trade schools (preferred) Jewelers of America (preferred)

Workweek hours will vary and will regularly include some weekend, evening, holiday and extended hours Design & Service Center environment is fast paced.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high.

There is exposure to machines, fumes, heat and chemicals.

Many tools, such as jeweler’s torches and lasers, must be handled carefully to avoid injury.

Polishing processes such as chemical baths also must be performed in a safe manner.

Wear personal protective equipment inside of the design and service center.

Free of all personally owned jewelry.  This includes metals, gemstones, and rhinestones.
