Backup and Recovery Engineer

Location Roanoke, TX Description Our client is currently seeking a Backup and Recovery Engineer Job Description The Enterprise Backup organization manages all backup infrastructure for the company including design, engineering, implementation and ongoing support. The group works very closely with server, data center, application and database teams to provide backup solutions. This job will have the following responsibilities The Distributed Backup Engineer is responsible for performing Enterprise backup Engineering Administrator duties including backup storage designconfigurationmanagement forecasting, backup software managementconfiguration. Responsible for maintaining the computer systems, server management including installing, maintaining and upgrading the servers. Will ensure the servers are backed up, and that the server data is secure from unauthorized access. May also produce and create reports, charts, manuals proposals and perform light programming (scripting). Must be able to plan, coordinate and implement software version changes and use utility tools to monitor elements of the system, such as memory, central processing unit (CPU) and program errors generated from a system or software problem. The engineer will work with database, application and server teams to analyze performance and backup requirements and provide solutions that are highly available and perform to meet the business requirements. Qualifications Requirements Solid understanding of network configurations topology Must also have knowledge in systems design and configuration. Solid understanding of end to end backup connectivity for a minimum of one Open Systems Operating system (Linux, Microsoft, AIX etc). Proficient in io performance and connectivity troubleshooting from the backup system to host to the arraybackup device. Must have experience with set-up, configuration and troubleshooting of host based multi-pathing technologies. Working knowledge of set-up, configuration and troubleshooting of host based volume managers. Ability to manage multiple vendor technologies at the same time. Exposure to database, host and virtual system backup solutions required. Strong verbal and written communication skills is required. Must have experience with Commvault backup software and at least one of the major backup hardware vendors (Isilon, DataDomain). Isilon andor Data Domain storage (Both preferably) Experience supporting Database backups on Data Domain with DDBoost Power protect software Experience with VMWareVsphere, SQL and DB2 DB commands and structure, shell scripting, Perl, Remedy, various monitoring software is preferred Technical project management experience is a plus Experience writing technical documentation Skills equiv. to 6-10 years in comparable position.
