Testing and Balancing – Field Technician

Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified HVAC Technician to support the growing demand for our Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) Services, Commissioning and Field Engineering Services.

On the job training will be provided.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be tasked with the following:
Testing and balancing of air and hydronic systems including VAV box calibration
Has performed and is familiar with methodology for the following field testing:
Airflow measurement via traverse and hood
Waterflow measurement via direct measurement with portable meter or through the use of differential pressure with flow charts
Power measurement including (kW and pf)
RPM measurement
Ultrasonic stethoscope use for steam trap testing (use for compressed air leaks a plus)
Basic use of infrared camera for thermal imaging of building envelope and steam traps
Functional and performance testing of air handling/air distribution equipment, chillers, pumps, boilers, cooling towers
Knowledge of basic Building Management System operation with the ability to adjust setpoints and other parameters to perform functional and integrated system testing
Setup and downloading of data logging equipment to measure temperature, relative humidity, waterflow, and power
Troubleshoot faulty systems and provide recommendations for corrective actions
Tabulate field data into summary report format and assist with TAB or commissioning report generation
Document any identified deficiencies into a site visit report or issues database
Strong communication skills
Must be computer literate with word processing (Microsoft Word)/ spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel)
Must be physically able and willing to conduct site inspections and field work (climb ladders, walk on roofs, etc.)
Ability to travel within the NYC Metropolitan Area including NJ, CT and Long Island
Qualifications:

Individuals with experience in any of the following are ideal candidates for the position:
Previous experience / schooling in HVAC balancing (TAB) or equipment maintenance
HVAC trade school participation
Well rounded experience in HVAC, TAB, DDC controls and field troubleshooting.
NEBB or AABC certification a plus (not required)
Field experience with utility systems
– boiler, chillers, cooling towers and pumps
– or have equivalent knowledge gained through actual utility system operation at pharmaceutical, institutional, medical, education or housing facilities
Knowledge of air and water distribution systems, ductwork and piping is desirable
