Job Title: Technician III, Design Civil Engineering Department: Engineering & Technicial Services Job Type: Full-Time Employment Type: Union Grade/Salary: DS-11: $77,957
– $100,473 per annum Hours: 7:30am

SUMMARY I.

Independently designs water and sewer projects.

Performs utility design and creates plan and profile drawings for water and sewer projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Performs advanced design tasks.

Essential Functions: Acts as senior technician in the development of in-house water and sewer design projects with an emphasis on small diameter water main replacement and sewer rehabilitation projects.

Independently designs plan and profile for water and sewer projects, including replacement and rehabilitations.

Provides technical guidance to co-workers, reviews, assigns work to lower grade technicians.

Coaches other technicians in development of design drawings.

Assist in the development of project schedules with higher-grade technicians and supervisor.

Updates project task using project tools such as MS Projects, Primavera of similar software tools.

Assist in the development of new tools and technologies within the suite AutoCAD products.

Assist in the development of checklist, standards, activity definitions and process flowcharts.

Assist in the development of internal training tools.

In the form of Quick reference guides or SOP’s.

Coordinate with specifications staff to ensure compliance between design drawings and specifications.

Assist in updating or developing CAD manual.

Consults with construction staff to verify asbuilts and make modifications.

Develops standard details from redlines markups.

Coordinates and updates standards design details with internal design and specifications groups.

Ensures technical quality of product.

Check the quality and completeness of work completed by other CAD and Survey Technicians.

Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position.

Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner.

Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.

Performs other related duties as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A Key Working Relationships: Interacts with coworkers in the Department and throughout the Authority, contractors, engineers, government officials, and with the public.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE & OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

Reasonable amounts of training are provided.

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) certificate and at least five (5) years of administrative or survey or inspection experience in an engineering or regulatory environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.

Five (5) years of progressive experience in AutoCAD preferred.

Three (3) years of experience in water and sewer design using AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.

Knowledge of water and sewer design principles.

Knowledge of engineering and survey instruments (experience conducting field surveys is not required, but experience working closely with surveyors is preferred).

Field work may include conducting field visits that could last several consecutive days with locations throughout the District and neighboring jurisdictions.
