Sterile Processing Technician-Certified

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital

This is a Contract position in West Des Moines, IA posted December 1, 2021.

Overview: Performs duties associated with the inventory, sorting, stocking, packaging, reprocessing, sterilizing, assembling, and distribution of medical and surgical supplies for use in patient care areas.

Responsibilities: Wraps, seals, and labels articles for identification, sterilization, and distribution.Decontaminates and cleans equipment according to established guidelines and policies.Inspects instruments for proper working condition and identifies items for repair.Assembles and accounts for all instruments trays requiring a tray listing.Monitors sterilizers by checking indicators and charts to ensure proper functioning and processing of the sterilizer units.Logs data pertaining to the biological and chemical indicators in relation to the sterilizer operations and according to the established Lurie Childrens policies.Completes duties associated with the soiled utility rounds and assists where needed with a situation requiring immediate attention.Adheres to established guidelines and procedures of Lurie Childrens and ensures a clean, organized and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service and teamwork.Coordinates routine activities between surgical suite personnel to include adjustments to schedules.

Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role.

Qualifications: Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.

One to two years of related work experience preferred in healthcare setting.

May provide training to individuals with no direct work experience if staffing mix allows.Requires successful completion of the established in-house training program within six months of hire.

Fosters a team approach in daily work activities and demonstrates independent judgment when addressing nursing/physicians staff concerns.Demonstrates analytical ability to monitor and interpret surgical procedure terminology and correlating physician preferences.Demonstrates problem solving skills necessary to address general trouble shooting situations.Demonstrates the ability to lead employees in a productive manner consistent with the goal of the department.
