Currently we have one (1) vacancy and this recruitment will serve to establish an eligibility list that may be used to fill additional vacancies that could occur over the next 12-month period.The Senior Equipment Mechanic is responsible for tune-ups, service and making minor and major mechanical repairs to firefighting apparatus and equipment; gasoline, CNG, diesel and electric-powered automobiles, trucks, buses and emergency vehicles; and construction, turf and maintenance equipment.
This classification exercises lead worker responsibilities.To view a complete job description, please visit our website at OF DUTIESThe ideal candidate will have a thorough working knowledge of heavy-duty truck and passenger vehicle automotive repairs with experience troubleshooting diesel engines, electrical systems, fuel systems and hydraulic systems.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess: The ability to work in a team environment;The ability to supervise and mentor staff;A strong work ethic and enthusiasm for getting the job done; Effective communication and excellent customer service skills;A valid California Class B license with passenger endorsement;A current ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) T4 Brakes certificate and/or a T8 Preventative Maintenance Inspections certificate;Experience inputting work orders and maintaining accurate electronic records; Experience performing vehicle safety inspections;Experience with ordering parts.Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is: Education: Equivalent to completion of 12th grade.
Additional automotive/equipment maintenance classes are desirable.
Experience: Two (2) years experience performing duties of an Equipment Mechanic II in the City of Vacaville.
If hired from outside, two (2) years full-time experience as an automotive or truck mechanic, one (1) year of which must be related to the maintenance of fire apparatus.
Or, three (3) years of full-time experience in a California fire department as a mechanic (no fire apparatus required).
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATESPossession of a valid California Class B Driver’s License with a Passenger and Tank endorsement and satisfactory driving record are desirable at the time of hire and are conditions of passing probation and of continued employment.
Employees are subject to random testing per DOT regulations.Certificates: Possession of an EPA Type II Certificate for handling refrigerant is desirable at the time of hire and is a condition of passing probation and of continued employment.
Completion of the National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) test for T1 Gasoline Engines, T4 Brakes, T6 Electrical/Electronic System, and T8 Preventative Maintenance Inspections is desirable at the time of hire and is a condition of passing probation and of continued employment.
Completion of the California State Fire Marshal Training Fire Mechanic Level I Course (Fire Pumps and Accessories) is desirable at the time of hire and is a condition of passing probation and of continued employment.
