Northshore Mining Company, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc., is a taconite mining and processing facility located in Northern Minnesota.
The mining facility is located in Babbitt, MN, and the processing plant is located in Silver Bay, MN, on the north shore of Lake Superior.The primary function of this position is to operate trains and maintain the track structure.
It requires self-direction and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
This position requires a person to work varied schedules and overtime as needed.
The position involves 12-hour shifts on a rotating basis and working unsupervised and outdoors.Requirements for this position include, but are not limited to:* Railroad operating experience; OR* Completion of a certified railroad training program from a college; OR* Minimum of a 2-year post-secondary or 4-year post-secondary degree, OR 4-year apprenticeship in related work, OR 4-years full-time military history with directly related work experience (part-time military only considered if candidate has at least 2 years of full-time deployment with work experience applicable to position), OR 2 years of directly related full-time work experience.* Learn, operate under, and safely apply Railroad Operating Rules and Special Instructions specific to NSM Railroad.* Complete work assignments in the Railroad (RR yard, mainline train, and track maintenance) with minimal supervision.* Must be self-directed with the ability to learn and follow directions.* Work experience in an industrial environment is preferred.* Recent heavy equipment operating experience is preferred.* Excellent attendance record.* Must be flexible with work assignments; will assist other departments as needed and required.* Must have an exceptional work ethic, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a self-directed team environment.* Complete work assignments in the Railroad (RR yard, mainline train, and track maintenance) with minimal supervision.* Must be self-directed with the ability to learn and follow directions.* A minimum of 2 years railroad operating experience is preferred.
Completion of a certified railroad training program from a college is preferred.* Learn, operate under, and safely apply Railroad Operating Rules and Special Instructions specific to NSM Railroad.* Demonstrated excellence in safety performance.* Must be an effective communicator.* Must be able to work outdoors, often working alone and unsupervised.* Must be able to respond to unusual or emergency circumstances when off-shift, and work a reasonable amount of department overtime.* Must meet vision requirements (specific to determining colors).* Must demonstrate a positive attitude and strong work ethic.We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
