The Power Systems Technician supervises, operates, installs and maintainselectric power plantand associated auxiliary systems and equipment. This position supports power requirements of the Life Cycle Contractor Support for the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Capability Instrumentation System (JPMRC-IS) program under the Army TADSS Maintenance Program (ATMP) at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. JPMRC-IS operations support the Army s USARPAC mission: to provide realistic joint and combined arms training focused on developing soldiers, leaders, and units of the United States military for success on the 21st century battlefield. This experience includes capabilities of many of the world’s best systems integration and engineering in the technical integration of live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training support.This is a casual position and requires travel to Hawaii, Alaska and the PhilippinesResponsibilities:Operating and maintaining electrical power plants and power generation equipment.Performing mechanical, electrical and instrumentation functions necessary to install and prepare power station equipment for initial startup.Works with management to pre-plan and schedule daily and overall power generation equipment maintenance and repair to prevent functional breakdowns.Performing diagnostics, repair, preventative maintenance, and safety checks on all power generation equipment.Performing electrical assessments and facilities maintenance on prime power generator sets and associated auxiliary systems and equipment.Analyzing plant equipment and system operating characteristics to determine operational condition.Repairing or overhauling generating equipment and associated systems components.Supervising the installation, operation or maintenance of prime power plants and associated systems and equipment.Directing preparation of power plant equipment for movement, storage, and installation.Serving as a technical inspector to determine faulty operation/maintenance practices.Determining and isolating complex malfunctions through diagnostic testing and troubleshooting techniques.Determining repair/overhaul requirements, cost-effectiveness and method of accomplishment for power plant equipment and associated systems.Maintaining equipment maintenance and repair records.Ensuring physical security of equipment.Determining methods and sequence of troubleshooting, repair operations, and modifications to equipment by working from manufacturers’ manuals, drawings, and specifications, installation layouts and sketches and verbal or written instructions.Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Supervisor as deemed necessary to keep the systems operating.Qualifications:High school graduate or equivalent.At least 4 years of experience dealing with electrical equipment, including the methods, tools and materials used in the operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment.Proficient with basic computer systems including email and Microsoft Office applications and be able to work with a computer for extended periods of time.Ability to interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and manufacturer diagrams and manuals.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in accordance with established procedures.Must be able to obtain/maintain a valid driver’s license and Post driving privileges.Able to obtain US passport.Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.Possess a Secret Security Clearance.Preferred/Desired Skills:Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 12P, Prime Power Production Specialist Course graduate, or other military service equivalent preferred.Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.Ready for action?
