Perkin Elmer is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join the Hopkinton Applied Genomics R& D team.
This role will lead develop ment of automated platforms for various applications within genomics field.
This position will require the ability to interface to a multi-disciplinary group as well as cross functions for the timely completion of project s.
Additionally, the candidate is expected to be experienced in mechanical engineering, specifically electromechanical systems, design for manufacturability, design of structures, machinery, and systems including fluidic systems.
Hands-on experience in prototype fabrication, assembly, and test.
Ongoing product support and improvement.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a focused attention to detail, work well with others in a team environment, be able to motivate team members, and be able to d e fine clear targets and e ffectively communicate results and data interpretation to all team members.
Responsibilities: Responsible for component and subsystem design for s ustaining projects and new products with a focus on DFM (design for manufacturability).
Technical writing in support of design inputs, design outputs, qualification activities, regulatory requirements.
Collaborate and contribute as a part of a project team with primary focus on mechanical design and production transfer activities.
Working knowledge of standards UL, IEC, ISO 13485 and related quality system requirements for medical devices.
Determine design feasibility, evaluate design alternatives, and select optimum design approach Develop requirements, specifications, drawings, bills of material, and material cost estimates.
Contribute to Risk Management activities to ensure design shortcomings are identified and appropriately addressed.
Present experimental findings and interpretations to R& D team members and cross-functional leaders.
Accountable for R& D DHF deliverables according to Perkin Elmer Design Control Process following ISO 13485 regulatory standard (product requirement specifications, technical feasibility plan/report, risk control record) Hands-on involvement in all phases of product development, including concept, planning, development and validation Education and Experience : MS.
( 3 years ), BS ( 5 years ) respectively, in relevant engineering with industrial e xp erience in life science / molecular diagnostics field.
Understanding of machining, injection molding, compression molding, thermoforming, CNC machining, die-cutting, sheet metal stamping/forming and extrusion methods in relationship to product development.
Proficiency in solid modeling and drafting using SolidWorks or a similar package.
Experience with SolidWorks PDM is a plus.
Track record in liquid handling automation technolog ies Other Requirements : Demonstrated experience in RUO product launch (IVD a plus) Experience in requirement m anagement tool ( TFS ) preferred Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Strong sense of ownership, self-starter Good verbal and written communication skills.
