Summary Statement: Under supervision Engineering Manager and collaboration with Senior-Level Electrical Hardware Engineers, the Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for executing mechanical design activities in support of electronic test instrument product development projects.
In this role, the Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer provides day to day technical project direction to more Junior Mechanical Engineers, MCAD & ECAD Designers, and Engineering Technicians.
The Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer is also expected to participate in the definition and oversight of product Design Verification, Manufacturing, and Design Qualification testing methodologies associated with assigned product designs.
Essential Job Responsibilities: Must have the ability to specify, design and document: mechanical components, subassemblies and assemblies used in the manufacture of electronic products, using SolidWorks 3-D modeling.
Design & Manufacturing Realization Expertise with more than one mechanical part fabrication technology (sheet metal stamping & forming, rubber compression molding, plastic injection molding; die-casting, etc.) Demonstrated Experience in designing electronic product assemblies involving PCB assemblies, display devices, user interface panels, keypads, interconnect wiring, and test lead connection panels.
Review and recommend changes to existing product designs to improve performance and quality.
Prepare engineering specifications and design documentation according to company standards.
Assist cross-functional project development teams in the specification, conceptualization, design and integration of components, custom fabricated parts and subassemblies realizing electronic products with top quality, low cost and on time delivery requirements.
Apply knowledge of engineering principles to research, evaluate, specify, design, install, operate, and maintain required manufacturing assembly equipment, systems & processes required to meet production requirements.
Participate in the specification and/or design of test control apparatus and testing procedures for supporting product testing: Design Verification, Manufacturing and Agency Approval.
Work closely with manufacturing partners reviewing manufacturability of new fab part designs (DFM).
Participation in the review/evaluation of existing and new manufacturing partners.
Ability to apply sound engineering principles, process engineering techniques, and LEAN principles to design administrative function.
Investigate product field failures and manufacturing yield and/or quality issues, determining root cause and probable solutions to remedy identified causes.
Write and manage Engineering Changes through the Megger VF ECN & Deviation processes.
Assist in Documentation Control ISO audits and implement audit recommendations.

Advanced degree seen as differentiator.
3-8 years performing as a Mechanical Engineer with a designer & manufacturer of electronic products.
Advanced Knowledge of MCAD practices and product assembly structure creation.Working Knowledge of part and assembly change control practices via Engineering Change processes.Experience/Desire Leading small work teams (Jr.
Engineers, ECAD, MCAD & Technicians).

Demonstrated Knowledge of product Qualification Testing: Drop, Shock, Vibration and Safety.
Demonstrated Experience working with ERP Systems: SAP experience preferred.
Proficient in MS Office Additional Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to work effectively independently as well as within small teams.
Experience in Thermal Modeling, Stress Analysis, and/or Material Flow Analysis seen as strong differentiators.
