JOB DESCRTIPTION: Maintenance Operator
Reports to: Operations Superintendent
Nature and Scope of Position: The maintenance operator is a non-exempt classification. The incumbent performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance functions and provides support for the operations of District facilities.
Qualifications: The knowledge and experience required for this entry level position would typically be acquired from working in related construction trades; performing preventative and routine maintenance on plant equipment and machinery; installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sanitary sewer pipelines. This position typically requires the incumbent to possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain the following minimum licensing requirements;
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Colorado Drivers License;
- Colorado Class D Water Operator certification;
- Colorado Class 1 Distribution certification
- Colorado Class 1 Collection certification
Knowledge:
Knowledge of:
- Distribution system components, materials, construction techniques, operations, and maintenance procedures;
- Collection system components, materials, construction techniques, operations, cleaning and inspection methods, and maintenance procedures;
- Various water treatment process methods, facility operations, and maintenance procedures;
- State, Federal, and local regulations;
- Meter reading
- Troubleshooting and basic repair methods of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and telemetry equipment;
- Appropriate equipment and materials/resources needed to perform specific tasks
- Heavy equipment operations;

- Complete and maintain records, logs, and reports;
- Monitor, inspect, and maintain wells, pumps, motors, and plant equipment;

Typical Responsibilities:
Duties include the operation, maintenance, and repairs to the distribution and collection system including experience with proper excavation procedures, pipeline installation and inspection, hydrant flushing, well and treatment plant operation, routine and preventative maintenance to plant equipment and system components; cleaning and inspection of sanitary sewer mains, lift stations, and manholes; utility locating, meter reading, customer service, and emergency response. Must be able to work any hours necessary to include emergencies, rotating on-call schedules, weekends, and holidays. Responsibilities may also include some or all of the following:
- Participate in the work-related activities of operations and maintenance crews;
- Identify potential problems and initiate remedial solutions independently
- Perform preventative maintenance programs and corrective maintenance work orders;
- Contribute and participate in training programs;
- Offer suggestions for consideration in the annual budget;
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs to the treatment facilities, and the distribution and collection system;
- Offer solutions to resolve customer service needs;
- Perform on-call duties during non-regular operational hours and follow procedures for emergency response;
- Other related duties as required to support the mission of the District
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions;
- May also be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, unsanitary conditions, inadequate lighting, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, work space restrictions, intense noises;
- Frequent lifting of heavy objects, often combined with bending, kneeling, and twisting while working on irregular surfaces. Work in noisy environments; exposure to extreme climate conditions; walking and standing on road surfaces for extended periods of time; work in restrictive and confined spaces.

Pay: $22.00 – $26.00 per hour
