Job Description Under general supervision, install, maintain, and repair a variety of machinery and related equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities Analyze machine problems by using troubleshooting techniques, repair manuals, drawings or manufacturers’ specifications to determine logical approach to correct the problem.Disassemble machines to find & replace worn or damagedparts and reassemble using parts on hand.Use measuring instruments such as micrometer, caliper, dial indicator and precision level.Fabricates parts if not commercially available, using machine and hand tools common to the trade.Prepare a parts replacement list for ordering parts or restocking of inventory.Perform preventive maintenance on machines.Make various replacement parts, weld, solder, fit pipe, and fabricate sheet metal guards.Relocate, install and align machines and equipment.Electrical MechanicsApply knowledge of functional operation of electric units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.
Understand & apply PLC ladder logic.Follow prints and manufacturers’ specifications.Use hand tools and test instruments.
Test electronic components and circuits to locate defects.Replace defective components and wiring.Align, adjust and calibrate equipment according to specifications.Good working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems designs, diagnosis and repair.Train & direct Machine Maintenance I on major installations and repairs as required.Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies.

The Individual High school diploma or equivalent2 years technical trainingAbility to read and interpret average assembly and machine drawings, make average to complicated arithmetic calculations, and resolve elementary technical problems.Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft officeRequires 3 years to 5 years previous related or subordinate experience.Pass certification to drive powered lift vehiclesPHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office.

Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities.
