Overview Provides acute and trauma medical care at the direction of licensed medical professionals by performing the following duties personally. Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis. Responsibilities Maintains exclusive focus upon patients served, the quality of their care, their individual needs and their medical outcomes without significant distraction by administrative and non-patient activities. Complies fully with all patient medical records and information privacy regulations, state and federal. Takes all steps necessary to fully ensure employee patient medical data confidentiality and security. As directed, assists with the treatment of patients exhibiting acute medical conditions such as airway obstructions, bleeding, broken bones, cardiac symptoms, childbirth, diabetic situations, injuries, lacerations, pain, respiratory distress, and similar conditions.Communicates with patients and/or family members about their conditions and guides them through administrative, exam, triage and treatment processes.Sets up exam and treatment rooms and continually ensures that each vacant room is properly prepared for future patients needing care.Collects blood, urine and other samples for laboratory and/or visual analysis. Performs phlebotomist duties as necessary.Performs EKG’s as directed.Performs CPR, airway maintenance, and set-up of chest tube and intubation materials required by physicians on a very rapid and perfectly accurate basis.Obtains and accurately documents vital signs and places oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure and respiration monitoring systems.Performs basic medical tests, generally of a laboratory nature.Ensures that patients are comfortable and well cared for according to state and federal regulations as well as contemporary emergency medical practices.Performs all job functions at high speed and with high quality particularly as it relates to patient services and written documentation. Always properly identifies and documents patients being examined and treated.Communicates observations about patient conditions to licensed medical staff in an appropriate manner that may or may not include the patient’s presence.Takes all necessary precautions regarding safety, infection control, bio-hazardous materials.Complies with all documented medical procedures and all verbalized instructions of licensed medical staff.Multi-tasks very effectively and rapidly, sometimes balancing up to four simultaneous patient/provider needs and requests.Interacts with patients and those who may accompany them in a calming, comforting and reassuring manner while utilizing language understood by those individuals.Performs all job duties with very high accuracy particularly as it relates to all actions taken with patients.Performs all patient serving job duties rapidly and with very high medical care quality.Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.Performs other special projects and duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; Associates’ Degree preferred.Certification in any one of the following areas; Medical Assistant (MA), Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) required.1 year experience in an Emergency Department or Urgent Care to include proficiency in lab draws and splinting preferred; equivalent experience will be considered. Current and continuing BLS training and certification for Healthcare Providers required. Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.
