Eye Doctors of Washington has an exciting career opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician in our Chevy Chase, Md.

office.

We are a progressive, multi-location, fast paced ophthalmology practice.

Clinical Duties
Escort all patients from the waiting room for data collection.

Following testing, advise them as to who will see them next and regularly check on patients to ensure they are comfortable while they are waiting.

Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed.

Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.

Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required.

Obtain and concisely record patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), social history, history of any allergies, and medications.

Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include: Visual Acuity, Manual Lensometry, Confrontational Visual Fields, Stereo Testing, Evaluation of Motility, Pupillary Function Tests, Color Plates, Applanation Tonometry, Advanced Refractometry, Angle Assessment, Dilation of Pupils, Contact Lens Evaluations, Visual Field Testing, Optic Nerve Scanning (i.e.

Cirrus and Spectralis OCT), Pachymetry, Corneal Topography and other tasks specific to the physician needs as a result of new technologies.

Perform duties consistent with ophthalmic writer/scribe if applicable
Assist physician with laser procedures.

Assist physician with minor surgery, maintaining practice standards of sterile technique and infection control.

Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills and patient care questions.

Communicate with reception and location lead ophthalmic technician to facilitate proper patient flow.  
 
Administrative Duties
Assist with other support activities, to include packaging and sterilizing equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness of patient exams room and other administrative or clinical duties as assigned by Doctor Leads, Location Leads, or Clinical Supervisor.

High school diploma
Minimum 2 years experience as an ophthalmic technician
Must be proficient with the following skills:
History Taking
Visual Acuities
IOP (via applanation tonometry and tonopen)
Auto Refraction
Manual Refraction (plus and minus cyl).

Lensometry
Topography
Biometry (Lenstar, IOL Master, and Immersion A-scan)
Knowledge of Ophthalmic Surgical Procedures (Cataract Surgery, LASIK, CXL, SLT, Yag Capsul
