Cepheid: Maintenance Equipment Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:The Equipment Engineer will have the responsibility to sustain, maintain and improve the equipment performance of consumables production automation equipment in a high volume manufacturing environment at the Sunnyvale factory.

Role will require hands on engagement at the tool, troubleshooting mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical and automation controls and implementing solutions for chronic/systemic problems.

In addition, this role includes managing and sustaining automation equipment spare parts.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform troubleshooting and corrective maintenance on custom automation equipmentExecute Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasksGenerate, write and continuously improve PM proceduresImplement continuous improvement projects on manufacturing automation equipmentComplete Engineering Change Orders (ECO) to Work Instructions, Tool (IOPQ) Protocols, Drawings and BOM listsDrive initiatives to improve product quality, increase part throughout, decrease equipment downtime, and strengthen safety measuresTrain equipment maintenance techniciansWork with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issuesKeeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair servicesWriting and following established maintenance proceduresAbility to drive design changes on equipment to improve performanceDrive improvement of equipment metrics (MTTR and MTBF) TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES: (REQUIRED)Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education and Experience (in years): Bachelors degree in field with 2+ years of related work experience ORMasters degree in field with 1+ years of related work experience ORDoctoral degree in field with 0-2 years of related work experience.

Knowledge and skills: Excellent written and oral communications skillsHands-on equipment experience with hand tools and machine shop tooling expertiseProficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, VisioStrong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a strong technical presenceGood Understanding of mechanical design concepts and machinery: Electrical, Mechanical, and Electromechanical schematics, motors, pumps, vacuum, and hydraulics Physical requirements/abilities:Must be able to lift 25 lbsMust be able to stand for several hours PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum of 4-6 years of relevant experiencePlastic Injection Molding a plusKnowledge and proficiency in Solidworks CAD modeling a plusKnowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)Lean 5S Manufacturing knowledgePLC and Control SystemsRoboticsAgile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)Project Management skillsVision and Laser SystemsEquipment retrofit upgrades and qualificationsSAP Material Requirement Planning (MRP) The statements in this description represent typical elements, criteria and general work performed.
