The Fiber Optic Lead Assembler is responsible for the dissemination of drawings, work instructions, cable assembly construction methods, hand and machine polishing, insertion and return loss testing and documentation control for both standard and custom optical and hybrid cable assemblies. A strong familiarity with single and multi-fiber optical cables (COTS, Military and Medical), including conventional ferrule-based fiber connectors, free space optical components such as collimators and medical based electrostatic sensitive devices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assemble, start to finish, fiber optic cable assemblies from drawings, sketches and verbal instructions Assist engineering and NPI team with development of fiber optic SOPs, assembly and process pictures throughout all stages of the process Perform optical end face inspection using manual and automated optical inspection equipment that involves the use of LEDs and lasers Assist with assembly and testing equipment setup along with troubleshooting Comfortable working with small optical devices, working under a microscope, and performing detailed inspection processes while documenting the data using the appropriate reporting software Diagnose and repair complex hybrid cable assemblies with the assistance of engineering and product development Ability to use hand tools of all types from rotary and straight cable strippers, scissors, small optical fiber strippers, and optical scribe tools.
