VP Marketing

This is a Full-time position in Durham, NC posted January 4, 2022.

Company is growing very quickly…and we ‘re doing it with an admittedly shoestring marketing operation. We need an innovative Vice President of Marketing that can own and accelerate our growth process while managing a growing marketing team.

We have a great sales team, a few marketing channels that are working really well for us, and lots of happy clients. But we have TONS of opportunities to improve what we have and build new programs ranging from client acquisition, client education, client retention, and beyond.

We ‘re looking for someone that can take ownership over our marketing function and move the needle. This will require work and thinking that ranges from refining our client segments to optimizing our AdWords spend to equipping our sales team to driving our content marketing strategy.

We’re a remote-first company with a home office in Durham, NC. We’re open to both local and remote candidates. Your interviews and onboarding will be via Zoom or in-person if you’re comfortable with doing so. This role reports to the CEO.

The things that you ‘ll do:

  • Take ownership over an aggressive set of sales and marketing goals — you ‘ll own the number and you ‘ll be accountable for the result.
  • Take ownership over our existing marketing programs — AdWords, content, email, video, etc. — and extend or improve what we have and build what we need.
  • Take ownership over our marketing tech stack — Salesforce, MailChimp, Zapier, Sheets, etc. — and re-tool it to better serve our team and better convey the data and numbers that we need to know.
  • Take ownership over Company.com — we love our website but you should have lots of ideas for how to make it better.
  • Segment-ize our thinking and marketing — we know our client segments but we don ‘t do a very good job packaging and communicating a unique message, product, and value to each segment.
  • Partner with our CEO and management team to extend marketing strategy and thinking across the organization.
  • Lead a small marketing team that includes a Director of Marketing and a couple vendors.
  • Provide leadership and stewardship that supports, grows, and strengthens our HAT culture.

The person that we ‘re looking for has:

  • HAT values
  • Full stack marketing fluency — from demand gen to client activation to client retention.
  • Demonstrated success at a SaaS company, ideally during the $5M to $10M stage.
  • Demonstrated success making thoughtful, data-driven decisions with a sizable marketing budget.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing a small marketing team.
  • Demonstrated expertise with our marketing stack — Salesforce, MailChimp, Zapier, etc.
  • Deeply held belief that marketing is about numbers, process, and iteration.
  • Excruciating attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attitude, aptitude, and values fit. No a-holes or divas allowed.
  • Lead a small marketing team that includes a Director of Marketing and a couple vendors.
  • Provide leadership and stewardship that supports, grows, and strengthens our HAT culture.
  • 6+ years of experience.

Our expectations and how we ‘ll measure success:

  • We measure our overall business on two dynamics — revenue and NPS — you should be confident that you can move the needle on these metrics within a quarter or two.
  • We have solid benchmarks for CAC, payback, etc…but we need more sophistication here — you’ll help us more clearly define marketing goals and pipeline…and you’ll commit to the number.
  • We have lots of low-hanging marketing fruits across the organization — you’ll immediately identify, prioritize, and knock out many of these in your first 30, 60, 90 days at Company.
