The Specialty Human Services Division (SHS) partners with independent retail agents and brokers to address the coverage needs and loss exposures of human and social service organizations across the country. SHS has earned the nationwide reputation as a premier carrier in this sector.
SHS is currently searching for an Agency Marketing Specialist to help us to continue to grow our Social Service business unit. The right candidate will excel at developing new business opportunities and building strong relationships with internal and external customers.
The person hired will work from their home in the Pacific Northwest area. This position would and will require frequent day day travel to visit agents and brokers located in the Oregon and Washington territory over 50% of the time.
Responsibilities:
- Has responsibility for developing a productive agency plant / territory. Develops marketing plan for assigned territory, taking into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of the agency plant / territory and competitors, divisional objectives and overall market conditions. Prospects, appoints and manages agency relationships to achieve production and profitability objectives. May develop and execute agency action plans for achieving individual agency objectives. Reviews and analyzes agents’ production and results. Implements and may recommend appropriate corrective measures; including modification or cancellation of agency appointments. Acts as a liaison between company and producer in solving problems.
- Markets company products and services to existing and prospect agencies. Interprets and explains products, facilities, practices and services. Gathers, analyzes and maintains competitive information. Makes appropriate recommendations based on competitive landscape.
- Has responsibility for building and maintaining effective business relationships with internal and external customers and coworkers in order to attract and retain profitable business. Ensures consistency across the team when communicating with agents and brokers.
- Identifies opportunities for and may spearhead development of new business and programs.
- May develop and execute agency action plans for achieving individual agency objectives.
- Reviews and analyzes agents’ production and results. Implements and may recommend appropriate corrective measures; including modification or cancellation of agency appointments. Acts as a liaison between company and producer in solving problems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years experience prospecting and soliciting commercial property and casualty business. Performs work under limited supervision and technical direction. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works with significant latitude and authority on assignments of higher technical complexity.
- Position requires frequent day and overnight travel, 30 – 50% of time, to visit agents and brokers.
- Must have strong communication skills to build and leverage excellent customer relationships and to successfully market products and services.
- Must have strong hands-on experience with various computer systems including rating systems, MS Word and Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Progression toward certification in area of expertise preferred; appropriate certifications could include Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
