This is a Part-time position in South Bend, IN posted November 21, 2021.

YouthShelter Worker – Weekends, evenings, 2nd shift (3-11:30 p.m.), and PRN for various shifts
Safe Station Shelter

Overall Purpose: Why the Job Exists & What You Will Do:

As the Youth Social Worker, you will provide support, guidance and supervise the activities of the youth program residents to ensure all policies and guidelines are followed for a safe living environment.

YSB is a hands-off, restraint-free facility.
Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes: Your Accountabilities in the Role

A.

Resident Support: 100% of the Job
1.

Provides recreational programming and services, facilitates individual and group life skills development, and make referrals or contacts social agencies as needed.
2.

Oversees daily operations and enforce all rules, policies and procedures of the shelter and its residents.

Screen, assess and document incoming calls and completes intakes of residents.
3.

Complete all necessary case notes, statistics and other documentation as needed.
4.

Performs various assignments and helps in other areas to ensure YSB program and team goals are met.

The job criteria may include other duties, responsibilities and activities, which may change or be assigned at any item with or without notice.

Position Requirements:
A.

Education: High School diploma required.
B.

Experience: 2+ years working with at-risk youth and/or children within a social service system helpful but will train the right person.
C.

Certifications: Valid Driver’s License, good driving record, and proof of auto insurance required for use of program-provided vehicle.
D.

Functional Skills: Good planning and organizing skills; ability to perform accurate written documentation based on observations, as well as review/read and follow through on written directives/instructions; excellent ability to problem-solve and diffuse situations effectively and quickly.

E.

Technology Skills: Basic computer and typing skills to transfer documentation notes into organizational software systems, experience with email and Microsoft Office 365 helpful but will train the right individual.

F.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication needed to effectively document and communicate with residents; bilingual in Spanish a plus, but not required.

G.

Leadership/ Behaviors: Self-motivated, reliable, able to work independently, and can get things done; responsive, compassionate, assertive yet great respectful communication and critical thinking skills to effectively provide direction and problem solve situations, compliance-focused and goal-oriented with excellent follow through; strong maturity to be able to maintain boundaries and professionalism to meet compliance goals.

Equipment Used:
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and other electronic devices.
This role will occasionally, safely, operate a motor vehicle for resident transportation.
Physical Requirements to Perform Essential Functions:
Ability to sit at desk for 6+ hours per day

Ability to sit and operate a motor vehicle

Ability to operate keyboard and view computer screen for majority of day 6-7 hours

Ability to write ideas/information in a logical flow for 5+ hours per day

Ability to read and respond on an on-going basis daily due to nature of the work, throughout the day

Ability to communicate with others via phone, in-person, and computer on-going

Ability to listen to (internal/external) clients/community partners, problem-solve, and respond accordingly

Ability to read, write and speak English fluently; bilingual in Spanish helpful

Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, squat, twist, push, pull, walk, stoop, crouch, and carry items frequently

The employee is primarily exposed to an office/residential house type environment.
Travel as needed to transport residents.
