SUMMARY
Produce quality trusses (or gables) according to production schedules, safety guidelines and customer specifications. May be given assignments in several areas including: Sawyer I, Sawyer II, Forklift Operator, Gableperson, or Assembler III.
The pay range for this position is $14.00/hr – $21.00/hr depending on experience.
INTENT OF JOB DESCRIPTION AND MODIFICATION:
This job description describes the duties and responsibilities, qualification requirements, physical demands, work environment, etc. for this job. Duties may be combined with other jobs or duties from other jobs depending upon operational circumstances. Management reserves the right to add, modify or end any of the duties contained in the job description as business conditions warrant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The associate must satisfactorily perform the following duties.
1. Arrive at work location punctually and consistently on a daily basis.
2. Follow instructions when given an assignment.
3. Learn safety procedures and follow established procedures for all assignments.
4. Maintain work stations including inventory and work areas according to Company standards and housekeeping guidelines. Restock materials.
5. Handle lumber and perform miscellaneous yard work as assigned.
6. Comply with all Company requirements for conduct and work behavior.
7. Attend and participate in all Company sponsored training programs as required.
8. Perform any other duties, responsibilities or tasks as assigned.
In addition to the items listed above, the associate may also perform any or all of the following duties:
1. Read and interpret truss work orders to accurately select lumber and truss plates and to stage all components.
2. Coordinate the setup of trusses. Direct and guide lower level truss workers in operating the truss presses.
3. Train and provide ongoing direction and assistance to lower level truss workers.
4. Identify and label all trusses and label bundles of completed truss packages.
5. Recognize assembly problems and report them to the Leadperson in a timely manner.
6. Work independently to assemble gables. Read and interpret truss work orders to determine specifications of gables to be assembled.
7. Organize and coordinate gable production with Production Foreman and overall truss production schedules to ensure gables are completed when required.
8. Operate a skill saw to cut lumber to the appropriate length while optimizing the use of lumber and minimizing waste. Assemble gables accurately and efficiently according to established standards.
9. Complete production reports and submit to Production Foreman on a daily basis.
10. Safely operate saws to cut lumber according to work order specifications. Minimize the amount of scrap lumber by maintaining
optimal accuracy while cutting. Recut all appropriate scrap for block and special webs.
11. Direct Forklift Operators to load lumber train with required sizes and types of lumber to optimize saw operating time.
12. Direct the Tailperson on timing and procedures for clearing cut lumber from the saw area. Train and assist Tailperson in proper labeling and banding of cut lumber to ensure tasks are safely and correctly completed.
13. Visually examine and verify quality of lumber before cutting, and verify accuracy of lengths, and angles of cuts after cutting.
14. Perform routine saw maintenance procedures safely and according to maintenance schedules.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May indirectly supervise 2 to 3 associates in a work team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training associates; directing work; and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Six months to two years of prior experience or equivalent is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to understand the English language in both the written and verbal form. Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and work orders.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
If assigned to drive a forklift, a certificate issued by a previous employer or outside vendor on the correct and safe operation of a forklift is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, vibration and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to read and use a tape measure. Must be able to use a hammer and a skill saw. Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings.
