Overview: The Tool Room Toolmaker will build transfer press tooling, inspection gages and special fixtures for transfer and progressive metal working machines and secondary department machines.
As assigned, the Tool Room Toolmaker will also utilize a variety of equipment in order to build high quality carbide transfer press tooling, fixturing, and gauging.
Responsibilities: Build Punches, Dies and other transfer press tooling, inspection gages and special fixtures for transfer and progressive metal working machines and secondary department machines.Build steel and carbide tooling with some supervision.Effectively use all Tool Room tools and equipment such as lathes, mills, grinders, saws, drill presses, polishers, hardening, tempering, and the like, as well as all special attachments to above equipment.Will be required to work to tight tolerances.Acquire a good knowledge of the functions and workability of carbide, tool steels and production materials.Make suggestions for changes in methods to improve operations.Keep all necessary records and make out all necessary forms.Store and retrieve plant tools, records, and drawings according to procedureAdhere to all safety regulations.Keep machines and work area neat, clean and orderly.Use care in operation of all machine tools and attachments so equipment can produce accurate quality work.Must be able to read and interpret sketches and ordinary mechanical drawings.Must perform to the specified work of production and quality standards for the assigned job.Perform proper handling and labeling of hazardous materials and wastes, as directed by supervisor.
This includes performing required Hazardous Waste (and PPC) Site Inspections and meeting spill response objectives.Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Ability to operate a keyboard and perform basic computer Must be capable of interacting, coordinating, and collaborating with other Tool Makers, internal customers, all Click Bonders, and occasionally external customers in a respectful, and productive manner.Must be capable of independently and continuously maintaining safety while performing any and all essential duties and responsibilities.Must be capable of performing all essential duties and responsibilities with guidance from other Tool Makers Lead Toolmakers, and the Tool Room Supervisor.Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented.Ability to write and read EnglishRequires continuous long reaches, bending, standing, while handling light materials.
Sometimes requires using large wrenches, crowbars, or lifting or moving heavy materials or parts.Moderate physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of medium weight materials.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.May require pushing/pulling on components with moderate force, sitting/or standing for length of shift.
Use of hands/fingers regularly through shift to manipulate components, tools etc.
Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED.
Two years of vocational training preferred.Completion of Toolmaker apprenticeship program or 4 years of tool making experience, preferred.Knowledge of manufacturing process necessary in making complex tooling and equipment.
