General Responsibility Statement:
Prepares surfaces of all units by performing sanding, grinding, chipping, and washing tasks. Frequently works with a wide range of power tools and hand tools. Works effectively in teams and with other work groups. Contributes to a safe, efficient and productive work environment. Passes along work of high quality workmanship.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Applies basic understanding in the operation and maintenance of grinders, sanders, and chipping tools in the paint preparation area. Knows primary position/job well and understands customer/supplier relationship.
2. Prepares IPOs, crane parts, and truck units for the paint booth per the manufacturing schedule. Produces work that conforms to customer specifications and company standards understanding the importance of doing it right the first time before passing it on. Refers to blueprints, technical drawings and other written directions.
3. Maintains a clean and safe work area, maintains and wears all required personal protective safety equipment.
4. Works at different work stations as needs require or shifts from one station to another. Able to promptly produce quality work that satisfies customer requirements.
5. Participates in all continuous improvement programs by offering suggestions and by exhibiting initiative in the paint prep area.
6. Follows all organizational, department/area, safety policies, procedures and directives as outlined in, but not limited to: Maintainer Employee Handbook, and Maintainer Quality Manual.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Education, Reasoning ability, and or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or proven track record in work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Able to utilize grinders, sanders, chipping tools, various other power tools, and personal protective equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Communication and Language skills:
Ability to read, comprehend and follow simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to maintain a positive work attitude while performing assigned duties.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required to stand and frequently use hands and fingers to grasp and hold objects, tools and or controls, likewise frequently reach with arms and hands. Maintainer is a custom manufacturer which requires employees at times to work in awkward positions while performing these assigned duties. The employee is required to walk, crouch, kneel, sit, and talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is also at times, exposed to fumes and or airborne particulates.
Must also utilize hand tools, power tools and other special equipment to perform assigned job.
