Manufacturing Textile Chemist
The Manufacturing Formulation/Chemist works closely “on the manufacturing floor” with manufacturing associates and other engineering personnel and is responsible to develop formulation techniques of all fibers/fabrics with an emphasis in synthetic dying technology. The Manufacturing Formulation/Chemist develops the methods and tools that are necessary to improve current products, and to bring new products and processes to the company’s portfolio. This role is responsible in applying the knowledge of chemistry, formulation and related technologies into the company’s processes to develop, refine, and sustain the company’s fabric dying capabilities.

Job duties:

• Ability to match shades, recommend dye combinations, raw materials, and relevant process controls to ensure acceptable shade matching and shade quality control.
• Develop, validate and establish protocols to be used for technical support, process/quality control and development purposes.
• Identify harmful environmental or hazardous waste/byproducts, and ensure safe handling and disposal, work to eliminate or reduce the generation of such wastes/byproducts.
• Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior science to develop material and processing specifications.
• Interprets data and reports results to support research and development, environmental reporting, process improvement projects.
• Research and study the structures and chemical properties of various chemicals and materials with unique properties.
• Plan, conduct or coordinate relatively straight forward engineering analyses and tests, and prepare related reports and summaries, for review.
• Participate in the investigation of technical problems and analyze product failure data and results in order to determine root causes of problems and develop solutions.
• Interprets data to assess trends and interactions, summarizing results and recommending further investigation.
• Ability to oversee supplier processing and material procedures.
• Analysis of material conditions.
• Troubleshooting: Employee strong Failure Analysis and DMAIC principles.
• Assist with on the manufacturing floor inspections and evaluations.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry.
• >50% on the manufacturing floor, working hands-on with the manufacturing associates, methods, and materials.

• Ability to use analytical tools to identify and drive improvements.
• Exceptional organizational skills and detail orientated.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and negotiation skills required.
• Ability to prioritize and work under pressure.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Must be a self-motivated individual; displays ability to work in highly productive, constantly changing environment.
• High level of attention to detail.
