Our employees are not only part of history, they’re making history.Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a Journeyman Machinist to join our team at our Magna (Bacchus), Utah facility.Description & Responsibilities:Operates various conventional and/or numerically controlled machining centers on semi-complex jobs, as well as operates related machine shop equipment and tools. Works from blueprints, sketches, planning sheets, verbal instructions, and/or engineering, tooling, or equipment information. Contributes to company and shop safety initiatives as well as initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Works with limited guidance, in a team environment to meet customer and schedule needs. Job Requirements:• Able to setup, program and operate CNC lathes & milling machines, as well as setup and operate Manual lathes and milling machines. Including horizontal boring mills and VTL’s • Must be able to set up and operate auxiliary machine shop equipment including precision Grinders, Radial arm drill presses, shapers, saws etc.• Must be proficient using a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as dial calipers, micrometers, indicators, inspection gauges, deburring and finishing tools etc. • Able to accurately perform standard shop math computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling & feeds and speeds.• Able to accurately measure, mark and scribe dimension and reference points to layout stock for machining.• Able to interpret engineering blueprints, GD&T, sketches and engineering specifications and determine proper sequence of operations and methods of setup.• Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.• Performs other related responsibilities, as requestedBasic Qualifications:• High School diploma (or GED) and 5+ years’ experience in the machining field• Completion of a Machinist apprenticeship or Trade School Certification in Machining TechnologyOther Requirements• Effectively and constructively communicates with all levels of personnel including customers, Engineers, leadership, coworkers and support team members.• Actively engages in PES (lean manufacturing) improvement activities, process/procedure improvements, standard work instructions and the global improvement of the Machine Shop.• Be an advocate for our safety culture. Engage, promote and lead our teams in SIS (safety system) activities including hazard abatements, OP-E, Take Two, etc.• Demonstrates the initiative and ability to become knowledgeable and proficient in all area processes and supports all levels of hands-on tasks.• Positively influences coworkers and others to enhance the safety, quality, cost and scheduling of their team.• Assists leadership in achieving performance standards.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
