Based in Fife, ESS Recruit’s client is a household name product manufacturing business.

They have a proud history of innovating products and leading their sector for over 40 years.

The business continues to grow and evolve and they now need to make the key hire of a Head of Manufacturing.

Every product is made to order and production lead times are short, creating a complex and fast-moving environment.

Such an environment requires management with excellent organisational skills and inspiring leadership qualities.

The Head of Manufacturing will work closely with the General Manager, with the principal focus being the realisation of the organisation’s strategic objectives.

You will effectively set the tone and pave the way to “lift the culture” across a busy production facility and put in place a strategy geared around lean/CI, CAPEX, new materials/processes, automation, slick people engagement and development that helps “accelerate the next phase of growth.” Key responsibilities include:

• The creation of a showpiece manufacturing environment through the implementation of electronic bills of material, the rigorous application of 5S principals and the optimisation of shop floor layout.
• The development of a multi-skilled workforce capable of adapting to the varying demands that our made-to-order, made-to-measure proposition dictate.
• The development and implementation of a unique Quality Management system, rooted in the principals of Lean Manufacturing but adapted to recognise the end-to-end nature of our business.
• The creation of an Innovation Hub that allows for the rapid and robust commercialisation of new product developments.
• The creation of a talent pipeline that provides employees at all levels the opportunity to develop their skills and progress within our business, whilst also ensuring our leaders of today have the skills and support to lead effectively.
• Chair daily production meeting ensuring customer requirements are understood and delivered OTIF.
• Develop a sound understanding of the Manufacturing P&L and control daily material and labour budgets in pursuit of overall budget delivery.
• Support the General Manager in the implementation of Capital Expenditure projects.

The relevant candidate is educated ideally to degree calibre (MBA would good also) in a technical or manufacturing related discipline.

We are looking for a proven senior manufacturing leader operating at senior Operations Manager, Operations Director or Head of Manufacturing level.

This role will suit candidates from a range of production environments but we are very keen to hear from candidates used to managing and planning production for complex, short lead times and fast moving products.

Candidates will have a “people first” philosophy and will be able to showcase and lead cultural change impacting on processes, people and systems over time.
