Factory Engineer

Dow has an opportunity for a Research and Development Run Plant Engineer located in Wilmington, Delaware . The R&D Run Plant engineer will provide support to the Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics and Hydrocarbon (PSP&H) high pressure polyethylene businesses activities through pilot plant support activities.

The R&D Run plant engineer will serve as a vital resource for operations by applying technical and organizational skills to drive continuous improvement at the facility delivering maximum value and continuously improving process safety and research efficiency. This role requires expanded knowledge of conceptual and practical knowledge and increased knowledge of key business drivers.

Key Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Works closely with the pilot plant team leveraging their problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
  • Works with customers to define experiment deliverables throughout the campaign.
  • Translates customer expectations into plant work processes so that plant resources can successfully achieve experiment deliverables
  • Partners with experts to perform troubleshooting and improve and document operating discipline.
  • Works closely with pilot plant resources to support process control improvements and maintenance
  • Supports the facility root cause investigation process by serving as a team member or facilitator for incidents related to process technology.
  • Supports plant continuous improvement activities and can serve as an information resource for the project team and stakeholders.
  • Responds urgently to plant issues and emergencies.
  • Acts as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drives implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensures compliance with plant operating permits. Understands site integration and provides input to optimize the overall system.
  • Drives knowledge exchange with technology experts to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities for the technology
  • Possesses in-depth process technology and continuous improvement skill sets helping to establish credibility with the operations team.

Key Attributes of a Pilot Plant Engineer:

Initiative : Identifies/prioritizes improvement opportunities, develops solutions for effective implementation, secures resources, and delivers these improvements in a timely fashion. Candidate will operate in an empowered and de-layered organization with a high degree of personal accountability and minimal supervision.

Teamwork : Demonstrates leadership skills and actively participates in team meetings. Works well with a variety of key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of projects.

Technical capabilities : Demonstrates strong process knowledge to appropriately identify and validate opportunities based on data analysis and interpretation.

Value creation : Thoroughly assesses the possible improvement opportunities and identification of the most effective solutions to significantly impact the business’ capital spending, operating costs and ability to maintain/improve our competitive position within the global petrochemical industry.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering is required; Master’s degree or additional relevant work experience a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years engineering, manufacturing, R&D or related experience is required.
  • A minimum requirement for this U. S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U. S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High Pressure Polyethylene process technology experience
  • Experience interacting with Allen Bradley process control system
  • Production or Process Engineering, or related plant experience
  • Knowledge of process safety work processes such as process hazard analysis reviews and RCIs
