As Senior Scientist Applied Research , you will be part of our CardioMEMS product development team focused on delivering the future in medical devices.
The Applied Research Scientist will provide technical and scientific expertise throughout the development and execution of algorithm development using hemodynamic data generated by Abbott’s heart failure medical devices (e.g.
CardioMEMS PA pressure, HeartMate 3 LVAD, and Centrimag).
You will support or lead technical development of algorithms using data from Abbott’s heart failure medical devices to improve patient outcomes, improve product reliability and efficiency, or create new uses and therapeutic value.
In addition, in this role, you will critically review detailed scientific information and assess any gaps based on adequately supported data.
You will assess project risks and recommend contingency plans and strategies to mitigate risks.
Responsibilities: Provides technical leadership for hemodynamic algorithm development associated with heart failure medical devices.
Identifies significant areas of scientific inquiry that may be related to medical device therapy, designs research projects to investigate such areas, and carries out or directs such projects to completion.
Reports significant progress and final findings of projects to management and product development staff in the company.
Runs empirical and experimental analysis utilizing various analytical design tools to support design and development for heart failure algorithms.
Utilizes multidisciplinary engineering knowledge and experience to design and develop new algorithms for heart failure management.
Publishes research findings in scientific press and may otherwise disseminate findings at conferences and symposia.
Remains aware of patent implications of research; takes appropriate steps to review patent implications with attorneys and with management; prepares documentation for patent applications whenever required to protect value to the company.
With approvals, may collaborate with and/or direct research projects carried out at universities and laboratories outside of the company.
Assesses own and others’ research results in order to develop recommendations for future research directions and projects.
Complies with U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required.
Advanced degree preferred.
Degree in the sciences, medicine, or similar discipline highly preferred.
5 years of related work experience with a complete understanding of cardiovascular hemodynamics Preferred Qualifications: PhD Strongly preferred – may substitute for 3 years of experience Experience in Cardiovascular related products Knowledge of cardiovascular and pulmonary anatomy and hemodynamics Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in timely manner.
Strong organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.
