Research Contracts Administrator

Joslin Diabetes Center

This is a Full-time position in Boston, MA posted February 18, 2022.

The Research Contracts Administrator reviews and negotiates contract terms and conditions.Reporting to, and in close collaboration with Senior Director of Technology Transfer, develops and maintains standard agreement templates and updates standard operating procedures as needed. This position works closely with Senior Director of Technology Transfer, Research Administrators and Vice President for Research Administration as well as Principal Investigators and Office of General Counsel.Responsibilities:Reviews and negotiates all contract terms and conditions for adherence to Joslin, HMS, Federal and Sponsor policies in preparation for legal review.Serves as a point of contact during negotiation and review of agreements. Oversees agreement process through final signature.Determines type of contract necessary.Prepares agreement drafts, prepare or update templates, negotiates, executes and distributes fully executed agreements and ensures that they are completed in a timely manner and filed appropriately.Updates and maintains agreements in repository and other database systems. Schedules progress, deliverables and notifications on all awards in database systems with appropriate notifications.Finalizes research agreements including securing signatures, overseeing handoff of completed agreements to OSR administration and to related stakeholders.Responsible for subrecipient risk assessment process for federal awards.Maintains all contract templates to ensure what is on file is the most up-to-date, from FDP templates to the Harvard Affiliate templates. Presents template changes/updates to inform and educate Joslin team members.Works with Vice President of Research Administration, Senior Director of Technology Transfer and OGC attorneys to ensure contract language and other templates are current and conform to all applicable requirements.Participates in OSR-wide projects.Educates OSR and other Joslin personnel on the contracts process and components.Represents Joslin on Harvard Affiliates Working Groups related to agreement templates, uniform procedures and standards that apply to all relevant affiliated institutions, and related matters.Participates proactively in ad-hoc committees/workgroups to optimize agreements workflows, accountability and transparency.Performs systems audit as needed or required.Must stay current with federal, non-federal regulations, policies and processes.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree. 1-3 years related work experience required of which 1 to 2 years of direct research administration duties which include pre-award and/or post-award management of grants and contracts, is desirable.Ability to work with a varied caseload with minimal supervision, exercising strong judgment and applying the appropriate legal principles and Joslin policies and practices to specific legal issues.Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Strong organization and time management skills with ability to multi-task while remaining detail-oriented in a highly time sensitive environment. Outstanding verbal and written skills proven in either a legal, University or academic medical center setting are required.Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.Knowledge of contract law, sponsored research and experience in negotiating and reviewing contract and/or subcontract awards is preferred.Knowledge of higher education law and experience in the practice of law within a college or a university or academic medical center related setting preferred.
