Position Overview

The Discovery group based in South San Francisco at Adaptive Biotechnologies is helping to identify TCR-based therapeutic candidates and clinically useful biomarkers.

Our team is developing a world-class high-throughput TCR discovery platform.

Our mission is to resolve the T cell repertoire by combining Adaptives core next generation TCR sequencing with cellular immunology assays to identify antigen-specific TCRs at an unprecedented scale.

Our goal is to produce clinically useful TCR-based biomarkers and therapeutics, and ultimately to map the universe of antigens recognized by human T cells.

Adaptive is seeking an accomplished, creative, and highly motivated Research Associate II to join the Discovery team in South San Francisco.

You will play a key role in the design and implementation of cellular assays aimed at identifying and characterizing T cells, including assays measuring T cell antigen specificity and function.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments with general guidance or following established protocols
• Isolate and culture primary cells from PBMCs and perform cell-based immunological assays including assays to measure activation, proliferation, and cytokine production from T cells.
• Culture and maintain primary cells and cell lines.
• Work in a team and wider group to support TCR discovery-based efforts.
• Communicate experimental results to the team and wider group.
• Maintain laboratory instruments, reagents, consumables, and other routine laboratory tasks as needed

Requirements

• A./B.S.

  in Immunology, Cancer Biology, or related discipline with 2+ years of experience (or Master’s degree with some experience)

Preferred

• Experience with multi-parametric flow cytometry and cell sorting
• Experience with isolating and culturing primary immune cells for cell-based assays (T cell stimulation, proliferation, phenotyping etc.)
• Experience with handling human tissue specimens (blood, etc.) and familiarity with BSL-2 protocols and best practices
• Exceptional attention to detail and impeccable record-keeping skills
• Effectively work and communicate with group members and other groups in a dynamic and fast paced environment in order to accomplish goals
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Background knowledge of T cells, TCRs, and immunology is a plus
• Experience in molecular biology, and NGS sequencing is a plus

Working Conditions

Requires working in a laboratory handling human biological specimens, flexibility and willingness to work more than standard hours when necessary, including nights & weekends, etc.

The position may require extended periods of time at the laboratory bench and the ability to lift 20 kg.
