Document Preservation Clerk

Job Description:
Responsibilities include preparing, organizing, and Laminate sleeve-stuffing documents for preservation.
Production expects 3 of these complete preserved document books/binders per day.
High level of commitment to attendance will greatly impact these candidate’s ability to move into a permanent role with the company.

Common job duties include working hands on with large (18” x 12” ) historical county record books, documents, and maps.
Our entry level technicians are trained on simple data entry- filling out log sheets, cutting books apart using surgical tools, trimming paper on manual board shears, performing conservation mending of tears and rips in the paper using hand held tacking irons and archival mending tape, performing some basic removal of non-archival adhesive tapes (ie. scotch tape) utilizing Q-tips and alcohol swabs, use of dry mount laminators to press paper flat, deacidification of paper (using a dry spray process to coat paper with a chalk solution via a hand spray system), stuffing paper into protective PET envelopes (termed encapsulation), and rebinding paper into new protective archival binders. Candidate must have ability to stay focused and be precise in order to keep pages in order per each step of the conservation process and be able to check off progress on log sheets as work progresses from step to step. Good organizational skills are a must.
Candidates should have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and must be able to lift twenty pounds and be able to handle repetitive tasks which require good hand dexterity and shoulder mobility. Working in a steady and even pace is important, and staff should be able to work within well-established time rages per job task (not go too slow once trained, or too fast which results in mistakes).
