This is a Full-time position in Peoria, IL posted October 24, 2021.

Position Summary

The Accounting Specialist 2 is responsible for completing all fixed asset, depreciation, prepaid expense, and purchasing duties/requirements for all Corporate and clinical customers while working in accordance with Heartland Health Services (HHS) mission and strategic goals, federal and state laws and regulations, performance and outcome objectives, and accreditation standards.

Essential Functions

  • Researches and evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier’s reputation and history.
  • Reviews requisitions for goods and services and purchases the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price in correct amounts.
  • Ensures purchase orders follow the Financial Policies & Procedures, including proper account coding, approvals, and documentation.
  • Maintains the fixed assets system including adding new assets, writing off assets that are disposed of, verifying depreciation calculations, completing monthly journal entries, and overseeing annual inventory.
  • Tracks all prepaid expenses and ensures proper accounting entries.
  • Records all daily deposits into our General Ledger.
  • Reconciles EPIC payments posted with cash receipts and communicates findings to the billing department and verifies all items are corrected.
  • Assists the Accounting Department with keeping accurate documentation and records as required.
  • Assists with the annual audit by assuring that required schedules, reports and documentation are readily available and provided to the auditors.
  • Supports clinic compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and HHS rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the clinical provision of medical services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, work place safety, public health, and confidentiality.
  • Supports and is involved in HHS’s continuous quality improvement efforts designed to improve patient outcomes.
  • Works in consultation with clinical teams, direct clinical support staff, and indirect clinical support staff to develop and implement policies and procedures that maximize patient-centered communication and services.
  • Maintains and assures confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HHS’s policies.
  • Reports building/equipment problems through the appropriate channels.
  • Performs any clerical duty or department related task as assigned by supervisor in a continuously changing medical practice.
  • Attends all staff meetings, department meetings, and any other meetings as required.
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality.


Job Qualifications

  • COVID-19 Vaccination is REQUIRED
  • Associates degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related Business field preferred
  • Purchasing experience preferred
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills required
  • Excellent collaboration and customer service skills required
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills across all levels of management
  • Able to work independently and make financially prudent decisions
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office products with emphasis on EXCEL and WORD
