We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced  Systems Engineer to join our team.

Position Summary:

The Systems Engineer position is focused on integrating and implementing complex technical solutions for Avalara’s global IT infrastructure.

This position requires a wide technical breadth to handle issues across our technology portfolio ranging from coordinating acquisition integration, infrastructure, virtualization, networking, and security.

You will be partnering with the information security team to design and deploy advanced security tools and solutions.

You must be a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity and who can deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

• Act as a point of escalation and technical advisor for integration activities
• Partnering with security team to design and deploy security tools, solutions and technology across the technology portfolio
• Discover IT infrastructure environment for newly acquired companies across multiple locations
• Responsible for planning and execution of integration plans
• Engaging with SMEs within Avalara to assist with integrating newly acquired companies
• Communicating with leadership on status of integration activities
• Use configuration management tools to deploy changes at scale
• Provide initial support to newly acquired organizations
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field
• 5+ years experience as a Systems Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar role
• Three or more years of direct customer interaction with demonstrated ability to effectively convey complex or technical information to non-technical end users.
• Expert knowledge of 3 or more items from each category listed in the “Technologies” section below

Technologies:

• Core Infrastructure
  – Windows Server, Linux, Advanced Active directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, Performance tuning, Backup and DR
• Networking
  – Cisco CCNA equivalent, VPN, Cloud networking, virtual networking
• Security
  – AWS Security, Firewalls, Vulnerability management and remediation, Email security products
• Enterprise Application
  – Okta, O365, SQL, Atlassian applications, Configuration management tools, Gsuite, ITSM tools

Preferred:

• AWS, Azure, GCP, Security certifications
