NGA’s civilian, military and contract personnel evaluate imagery, maps, charts, multiple layers of foundation data
– such as terrain, elevation and gravity
– and the full spectrum of visible and invisible light in order to help users visualize what is happening at a particular place and time.

NGA uses a flexible, high mobility career model.
Individuals are hired for their overall skills within a specialty such as Systems Engineer, and then placed in various positions throughout the agency once they complete the clearance process.
Although currently advertised as a No, Permanent, telework-eligible job posting with 25% or lesstravel, it is unknown which specific positions will be available after applicants complete the selection and clearance process.
Because of this, aspects of the job such as travel, supervisory, telework, etc may change, depending on specific positions available at that time.
It is also possible that applicants could be hired into a position with specific aspects and then change positions after serving for a period of time in that assignment.
Applicants who have completed the clearance process receive final documentation about the nature of the specific position before they make the final commitment to join NGA.Band 4 Systems Engineers apply a structured approach to the design and implementation of complex systems and processes.
They capture and translate multifaceted requirements to transform them into capabilities, and perform testing and validation of services.
They analyze complex systems architecture requirements and oversee the development, testing and validation of systems and services.
They also coordinate the integration of large or complex systems and services into enterprise architecture and oversee deployment.Duties:1.

Develop project schedules and determine all resource streams3.
Provide technical guidance and oversight; disseminate written, oral and digital reports to leadership4.
Approve requirements decomposition and enterprise architecture integration5.

Prepare and provide system, program, project or status update briefings to senior staff and/or working groups to provide insight on progressPosition requires attaining Level II DAWIA certification in Engineering within 24 months.This position is eligible for an INCENTIVE: The selected candidates may be offered an incentive as part of the offer of employment, based upon budget availability.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, Engineering Management, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Information Technology, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Technology Management, System Engineering, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience in Information Technology, systems planning, research, development, engineering, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work.
As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience.
Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years.

Experience with the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), or its successor frameworks of Unified Profile for DoDAF/ Ministry of Defense Architectural Framework (MODAF) (UPDM) or Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
Of particular note should be a familiarity with the viewpoints of DoDAF of primary interest to systems engineers.3.
Demonstrated experience in the areas of Cloud and Data Engineering.4.
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and/or Digital Engineering.Additional Job RequirementsYou must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information.
In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information.
All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility.
