Job Description

Our engineering team is responsible for developing innovative solutions for managing data captured by our aerial capture platforms and tools for the company’s operations team to review, process, and prepare data for delivery to customers.

The team employs several technologies, including scalable cloud-based applications and services, container orchestration, and web-based/desktop applications.

It works closely with other stakeholders within the company, including other engineering teams, IT, and the operations team to design, implement, and support the technologies it develops.

The team operates in an agile environment, working with project managers to gather requirements and validate development work, striving for frequent releases to deliver products and features in a timely and effective manner to end-users.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you will have the opportunity to design, develop, and test software and tools used by our operations team that ultimately impact the final customer experience of the data that we provide.

We are looking for people who demonstrate a high degree of product ownership and who are passionate about delivering high quality products.

You will be responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining automated tests at all levels of development (unit, integration, system) that align with the direction of the team, and perform testing as part of the development cycle and as final acceptance before production releases occur.

You will also assist in the coordination and design of testing activities executed by other team members and represent the team in cross-team QA coordination of department-wide testing strategies and initiatives.

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • An understanding of software engineering best practices (e.g., unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, and continuous integration)
  • An understanding of Agile Development practices
  • Experience with common CI/CD methods and tools (Jenkins, Bamboo)
  • Experience developing software or tests using an object orientated programming language (e.g., C++, Go, Java, C#, Node JS, Python)
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem solving skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience testing or creating REST APIs
  • Experience integrating tests with Test Management and Reporting tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr)
  • Experience interacting with queue-based messaging systems
  • Experience with cloud technologies and cloud application architecture including containerization and serverless architecture (e.g., Amazon Web Services)
  • Familiarity with Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, or similar)
  • Experience working in a Linux environment and creating/utilizing virtual machines
  • Experience with GIS and image processing
