– we’re just getting started.**Summary:** The Programming Languages and Runtime (PL) team is a part of the Infra organization at Meta, which is responsible for driving the servers and technologies that drive the Facebook family of products: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, AR/VR.

The PL team specializes in compilers, virtual machines, programming language design and developer experience.

Our work on compilers and virtual machines help to make our data-centers run more efficiently and reduce our ecological footprint.

Our work with programming languages make our developers more efficient in their work.

We contribute and collaborate with the Open Source community on many of our projects.

We contribute and improve the most influential software projects on the planet, including: LLVM, Python, Rust, JVM, LLDB, HHVM.**Required Skills:** 1.

Be a subject matter expert in the field of: systems, performance compilers, virtual machines, programming languages or developer experience2.

Analyze and design effective compiler optimizations3.

Implement and/or enhance code generation targeting mobile or server platforms4.

Interface with other compiler-focused teams to evaluate and incorporate their innovations and vice versa5.

Conduct design and code reviews6.

Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of our toolchains**Minimum Qualifications:** 7.

3+ years of compiler, VM, systems or performance engineering experience8.

Master at least one of the following programming languages: C++, Java, Python, PHP, Rust, Swift.9.

Experience in: compilers, operating systems, computer architecture, performance analysis, developer tools10.

Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams11.

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.**Preferred Qualifications:** 12.

Experience in programming language design, compiler optimizers, backend code generators, debuggers and developer tools13.
