Senior VoIP Network Engineer (may be located at any CCI location)

Consolidated Communications

This is a Contract position in Mattoon, IL posted January 3, 2022.

Major Duties

Classification: Exempt / Non-Bargaining

Position may be located at any CCI location i.e. Edina, MN; Roseville, CA; Manchester, NH; Portland, ME; Conroe, TX etc.)
Provides engineering leadership and operational ownership for Consolidated Communication’s (CCI’s) expanding portfolio of VoIP and voice products. These products may include, but are not limited to, Hosted Phones (ProConnect), SIP and IP/PRI Trunking, Call Center and SS7 over IP (SIGTran). In partnership with Product Development and Network Architecture, take on the planning and operational engineering tasks related with these products including overseeing product and capacity augments as well as new network deployments across all regions. This will involve becoming an expert as it relates to all engineering aspects and deployment models for these services at CCI and within the industry

Responsibilities

Lead operational engineering role for various VoIP products

Perform advanced technical research and participate in long and short-range network planning through forecasting equipment needs, preparing cost-benefit analyses, and recommending capital improvement projects.

Monitor related systems for health and reliability as well as set and budget for increases in capacities based on customer sales and usage tendencies

Ensure network alarming and notifications are in place both for performance as well as capacity thresholds

Work with appropriate teams to add both new regional deployments as well as add capacity to existing platforms including hardware and licensing needs

Develop new or enhance existing VoIP products based on Product Development requirements in conjunction with vendor design specifications

Assist and help lead efforts related to any product exceptions to existing approved designs and provide the final configuration template to VoIP activations for these as needed

Has a contributing role in budgeting expenditures and revenue generation. Recommends cost reduction solutions to management.

Stays abreast of industry trends by participating in local technical organizations focusing on telecommunications technology, self-study, and attending seminars and workshops.

Will be become an expert in all topics related to this role and be able to perform training to other engineers and teams

Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor, including product research, special reports and projects.

Reports for work on time and maintains a satisfactory attendance record

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications & Networking, Electrical Engineering, or Information Systems or equivalent experience

Industry Certifications are preferred.

5 years experience in network engineering from a notable technology position

5 years in the telecommunications industry

Strong understanding of VoIP call flows and RFC’s and other related networking including, MPLS Layer 3 VPN, QOS, and Wireshark

Strong understanding of Consolidated equipment associated with VoIP applications including BroadSoft, SBC architectures, Adtran routers/switches and VMWare.

Experience/Training with the following specific vendor solutions are a bonus:

  • MetaSwitch switching platform
  • Perimeta SBC
  • Sansay SBC
  • Ribbon T7000 switching platform

Strong business acumen

Demonstrated leadership capabilities

Excellent organizational, oral, and written communications skills

Ability to work both independently and within a team environment

Ability to maintain a satisfactory attendance record

Flexibility to work virtually Monday through Friday across all US time Zones

Ability to work nights and weekends as required

Ability to travel nationally and within regional markets up to 25%

Ability to lift equipment on occasion up to 50lbs unassisted

Ability to effectively use hand tools, test sets and PC for job duties

Expertise in Microsoft Office including Visio

General knowledge in Python programming preferred
