Senior Manager, Mobile Software Engineering

Our location in Sylmar/Sunnyvale CAcurrently has an opportunity for a  Senior Manager – Mobile Software Engineering. The Senior Manager – Mobile Software Engineering will be responsible for leading Cardiac Rhythm Management’s (CRM) mobile software engineering team in product scope and requirements definition, design, implementation, validation and verification. We are seeking a highly motivated, execution-focused leader with the ability to balance priorities, nurture talent and deliver high-quality software to our customers. This is a hands-on and highly impactful role that will help build the future of CRM’s digital healthcare solutions for our customers using mobile applications on Android and iOS. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO  

  • Build and manage a high-performing software applications team on Mobile platforms, including Android & iOS.  

  • Understand product requirements and use cases, and drive development and validation of software requirements, architecture and functionality – with an emphasis on modularity and portability to allow reuse to meet future needs and scalability. 

  • Manage the research and prototyping of new and innovative solutions of the product and process; manage feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning and performing as intended. 

  • Lead software development efforts with various external partners and subcontractors. Work with them to ensure that the work is getting done when it needs to be and with the quality and consistency we strive to deliver to our patients. Demonstrate strong and clear accountability for project success. 

  • Drive scope definition, project planning and estimation of effort and schedule, coordination and tracking of dependencies and deliverables of the mobile software engineering team. Be the product representative of the mobile software team in program-level forums such as core team meetings, planning sessions, etc. 

  • Drive defect repair of one or more issues, ensuring detailed root cause analysis and identification of corrective and preventive actions to address current and future issues. Demonstrate familiarity with Agile principles and development environment, including the maintenance of a continuous integration development pipeline to ensure quick and timely deliveries to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Drive operational efficiencies and continuous improvements to development and test processes through investment in data-driven development and validation, automation, and performance modeling.

  • Demonstrate proactiveness in identifying risks or concerns, providing inputs on corrective or mitigation actions with team and organization leadership.

  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams consisting of other Software R&D teams, Systems Engineering, Hardware, Clinical, Marketing, Branding, Quality and Regulatory. Collaborate effectively with other mobile software teams across Abbott divisions such as Diabetes Care, Neuromodulation, Cardiovascular, etc. to adopt and share best practices and solutions.

  • Inspire and motivate the team members to achieve individual and project goals for on-time product delivery with exceptional quality.

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of and adhere to internal and industry-level best practices for mobile software development and deployment and quality.

  • Demonstrate sound communication skills and judgment in day-to-day tasks, decision-making and productivity.

  • Ensure compliance with Abbott quality policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Support all corporate and department-level initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and other regulatory requirements 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING  

Required  

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science or a related engineering field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • 10 or more years of relevant industry experience. 3 or more years of experience managing engineering teams to deliver software from concept to delivery of mobile applications on Android and/or iOS.

  • 2 or more years or experience managing Agile processes, including scrum teams, continuous integration and deployment pipelines, developing and managing test strategies, etc. 

  • Knowledge of industry best-practices in architecture and design, test management tools, cybersecurity and performance.

  • Sound decision-making and risk analysis skills.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams such as Systems Engineering, Business/Marketing and Quality to deliver on project commitments.

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to upper management and other stakeholders in different functions at various levels.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold self and others accountable.

  • Ability to work effectively a fast-paced changing environment .

  • Ability to travel approximately 15%​ .

Preferred   

  • Master’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience  

  • ​ 3 or more years of experience in Medical device development and/or other highly regulated industry 

  • Hands on experience with software development in a regulated environment​
