Who we are looking for

We are looking for candidates who are excited to apply data science to inform all stages of content planning, from the overall portfolio mix, to individual articles, photos and videos. As a Senior Data Scientist on the Content Planning Data Science team, you will develop, deploy and iterate on models and data products aimed at helping Nike plan and optimize the content that shows up in our digital experiences. If you are a data scientist who not only approaches research problems with scientific rigor, but who can also design, build and take ownership of production models and apply strong business sense when taking on complex projects, we want to talk with you!

What you will work on

In this role you will…

  • Ideate, develop and improve machine learning and statistical models that help maximize revenue, retention and engagement with digital content
  • Understand, describe, and predict the behavior of our content consuming members and response to and value of past and proposed content
  • Contribute to all stages of the model lifecycle – create prototypes; wrangle data; partner with Engineering and Product to deploy models to production; evaluate online experimental results; iterate on and maintain models
  • Collaborate closely with partners at all levels, technical and non-technical, to deliver maximum business value with models and data products; share knowledge, socialize results and build relationships
  • Participate in the data science community at Nike through data science lab meetings, study groups, knowledge sharing, etc.; stay abreast of trends in the state of the art and broader data science community

What you bring

Must Have:

  • 2+ years of experience delivering effective machine learning and/or statistical models to serve business needs; ability to understand, utilize and innovate on state-of-the art machine learning algorithms and/or statistical modeling
  • Deep Python proficiency
  • Experienced level of data wrangling skills – SQL, Spark / PySpark, Hive, pandas, etc – plus a strong understanding of Big Data
  • Experience deploying and maintaining models in production for internal users or consumers
  • Excellent data visualization skills and communication with technical and non-technical partners, and a love for collaboration
  • Ability to navigate a large, sophisticated, matrixed organization

Nice to Have:

  • A degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, economics or other quantitative field; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience delivering and owning production models at scale
  • Experience with computer vision, image and video creation using AI, predictive and temporal modeling, causal machine learning, forecasting, optimization
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud provider
  • Derive model outputs to show up in internal tools and reporting tools like Adobe platform.
