The Lab’s campus is only a 45-minute flight (or ~3 hour drive) from Seattle or Portland, and is serviced by the convenient PSC airport, connected to 8 major hubs.**Overview**Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is looking for a senior-level cyber security engineer with a passion and expertise in reverse engineering and a desire to define and drive projects with widespread impact on national security.
This role seeks a staff member with experience in both software reverse engineering and leading teams in reverse engineering.
Experience with non-x86 architectures is critical.
The ideal candidate desires to take control of their career and help drive reverse engineering and security testing projects to success.**Responsibilities**The Cyber Security Engineer – Software Reverse Engineering designs, deploys, and operates systems, networks, applications, and tools underpinning cyber security and defense.
Key roles and responsibilities of the position include:+ Provides integration of hardware, software, and other components to solve operational challenges for cyber defenders.+ Performs data and systems engineering functions to support cyber operations activities and systems.+ Engineers and deploys security and defensive countermeasures and controls.+ Ensures system security needed in operations are assessed, established, and included in design and development; executes security requirements definition, systems analysis, systems design, security hardening, security test and evaluation, and certification and accreditation.+ Supports operational systems and performs vulnerability scanning, network, system security configuration, and other similar activities.+ Designs and implements new approaches, methods, and techniques for cyber defense and resiliency for information technology and operational technology systems and networks.The position may interface with external entities, including law enforcement, intelligence, and other government organizations and agencies.**Qualifications**Minimum Qualifications:+ BS/BA with 7 years of experience+ MS/MA with 5 years of experience+ PhD with 3 years ofexperiencePreferred Qualifications:BS with 7+ years relevant experience in military space operations or acquisitions, or MS with 5 years of relevant experience.
Examples of desired relevant experience include:+ Familiarity with Ghidra and GDB+ Working knowledge of multiple ISAs including x86, ARM, and MIPs+ Proven knowledge of debuggers, disassemblers, and de-compilers+ Understands the principles of program analysis techniques+ The passion to find insecure coding practices within large code bases+ Proven experience in performing software vulnerability analysis on IoT and SCADA devices and software.+ Has knowledge of standard and nonstandard network communication protocols and cryptography+ Performed reverse engineering of large binaries+ Experience with obscure software liberties, compilers, and ISAs+ Creating SBOMs+ Linux devopsOther desired skills and experience include the following:+ Familiarity with real-time operating systems such as VxWorx and real-time processors+ Developed tools to accelerate software reverse engineering tasking+ Understands the principles of performing hardware reverse engineering+ Competed in Capture the Flag competitions or in other competitions where you are given reverse engineering and exploitation challenges+ Published vulnerability reports and/or CVEs.+ Experience establishing project vision, scope, and deliverables, leading teams, and constantly driving towards success.+ Able to write detailed forward facing engineering reports+ Demonstratable ability to handle multiple tasks on a single project+ Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with clients and laboratory scientific staff and management.**Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment**Not applicable.**Additional Information**This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.Requirements:+ U.S.
