Our process engineers not only improve production and repair methods – layout, lean production flow, tooling/product equipment, material, fabrication, etc.
– they also determine space requirements to ensure efficiency in manufacturing and repair processes in the industrial plant.

Our process engineer position is open on the Automation Engineering team and will select equipment, design, implement and test solutions to improve or launch new processes.If you are ready to implement processes to keep us ahead of the competition, we’re ready for you to come on board.
We are looking for a full-time Senior Automation Process Engineer for our Automation Engineering team at headquarters in Olathe, Kansas.
In this role you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for complex tasks related to manufacturing of several new products in development.
Other essential functions include:

t Serves in a technical leadership capacity responsible for project planning and makes substantial contributions to determining feasibility of project goals/objectives for multiple new products in development

t Attends ECO Meetings as needed and serves as a member of the Material Review Board
t
t
t Provides manufacturing cost estimates to engineering for PDP
t
t
t Recognizes need for new technology in the factory and begins research into addition of potential technology improvements
t
t
t Analyzes data to predict possible quality trends and implement mitigation
t
t
t Evaluates equipment for new processes and designs custom equipment as necessary for Garmin specific applications
t
t
t Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product and process development plans and concept documents including operational costs
t
t
t Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility
t
t
t Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Process Engineers (1 & 2)

t Contributes to advanced technical research on new processes and technologies

t Independently determines general approach and specific solutions to technical problems

t Demonstrates good judgment in setting schedules/risk taking

Automation Engineering Team:
The Automation Engineering Team (AET) is responsible for acting as an ambassador for implementing robotics and automated solutions at Garmin and will be a part of the overall Operational Excellence and Continues Improvement team.
The Automation Process Engineer will engage our design engineering teams to insure Design for Automation considerations are part of the New Product Development Process.
The Automation Process Engineer will act in the role of internal integrator as the subject matter expert in robotic solutions and will select equipment, design, implement and test solutions to improve an existing process or launch a new process in Garmin’s operations.

Due to the amount of resources and expense exhausted in training for this position, a minimum of one year from the start of this position will be required before an associate is eligible for a job transfer.
Qualified candidates for this role will possess the following education, experience and skills: Master of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering (or another engineering discipline) AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering (or another engineering discipline) from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of 8 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrates proficiency and full understanding of engineering and operations principles and processes Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others Previous work or internship experience working in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred!
