Junior Network Administrator-Virginia Beach, VA

This is a Contract position in Wixom, MI posted December 9, 2021.

As the Jr. Network Administrator, you will be at the forefront of deploying and maintaining new technologies at Fortis Solutions Group. Your day-to-day duties will include monitoring, maintaining, and enhancing the enterprise network infrastructure including Juniper enterprise switches, Meraki Firewalls and WAN switches, Cisco vASA, and Active Directory (DHCP and DNS services). You will be responsible for handling ticket escalations from the Service Desk or other team members, analyzing and resolving issues in a timely and accurate fashion as well as providing end user training where required. You will have an active role in development, improvement, and implementation of enterprise-wide solutions, working as part of a team or a project owner. You will also participate in the Change Control Board and ensure all changes are well planned and executed within the change window once approved.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor network infrastructure daily, report irregularities and open technical support cases with vendor support as needed to resolve network related issues
  • Responsible for working and resolving escalated service request tickets within established SLAs
  • Troubleshoot enterprise systems and equipment to eliminate problems and make improvements
  • Administer and maintain the enterprise network infrastructure, including enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN connectivity. (Cisco, Juniper, and Meraki)
  • Maintain static IP address list and assign IP addresses as needed.
  • Administer enterprise DHCP and DNS services
  • Documenting and reporting monthly KPI (Key Performance Indicators) related to the enterprise LAN/WAN environment
  • Document networks, equipment, maintenance schedules, and warrantee expirations
  • Work assigned projects as part of a team or project owner
  • Staying current on information technology trends and best practices.
  • Perform related duties as requested

Requirements:
Education and Experience:

  • AS degree in a technical major or three or more years equivalent work experience
  • One or more industry standard certifications JNCIA-ENT, JNCIS-ENT, Network+, or Security+ certification or equivalent training
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience working in a multi-site network environment demonstrating a strong working knowledge of enterprise infrastructure

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understands networking fundamentals such as IP subnetting, OSI model, routing and switching protocols, and VLANs
  • Comfortable in the switch command-line interface (CLI) environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • High attention to detail, organized, and able to prioritize.
  • Exhibit high integrity when dealing with confidential information.
  • Have a proactive approach and an ability to Think Forward.
  • Able to problem-solve and effectively contribute to a team environment
  • Able to collaborate effectively by phone and email with others within the organization
  • Able to travel to other company facilities (15-25% annually, depending on need)
  • Participation in on-call, after hours schedule for break/fix and maintenance activities
  • Ability to effectively mentor less-experienced personnel

  • Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job
  • Desire to continuously learn and apply learning to job and company success

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to perform routine, repetitive office functions
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment
  • Warehouse environment temperatures may be influenced by outside temperatures
