Hardware Engineer Intern

This is a Full-time position in San Francisco, CA posted December 26, 2021.

As an intern at Lyft, you will be interacting on a daily basis with optics, mechanical, electrical and software managers.

You will be a technical contributor with a deep understanding of the technology involved in the specification, design, integration, testing/qualification and manufacturing for micromobility.

You will work with engineers to implement bug prevention strategies, design for testability, and other quality standards.

We are currently looking for interns on one of our various Hardware Engineering teams.

Responsibilities:
Currently pursuing Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field
Hardware functional testing experience
Obtain technical architecture and requirements from product requirements
Support design decisions with engineering calculations, research, and experimentation
Be a part of architecture selection, electrical design, and validation
Validate design through functional verification, signal characterization, power modeling/test and system coexistence testing
Excellent communication skills
Passion for community, sustainability, and/or transportation 

Experience:

If Electrical Engineering –

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, including the ability to design and verify circuits in the analog domain
  • Some experience with embedded systems, processor selection, communication protocols (especially USB, SPI, I2C and UART), analog design, sensor design, low power design, high power design, RF technologies
  • Some experience with eCAD tools
  • Be hands-on in the lab and want to be in the details (soldering, oscilloscopes, data acquisition)

If Mechanical Engineering –

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical field
  • Knowledge in mechanical engineering fundamentals, including solid mechanics, electromagnetics, thermodynamics, and knowledge of basic engineering materials and manufacturing processes
  • Proactive problem solving, with experience in failure analysis, root cause investigation, and DOE creation
  • Some experience in 3D CAD, Basic GD&T knowledge and experience releasing 2D drawings
  • Working knowledge of FEA principles
