Greenplum Database Engineer

The Greenplum Database Engineer is responsible for supporting complex data loads and exports in numerous Greenplum systems.

This includes system performance monitoring and improvements focused on SQL queries, processes, ETL jobs, and system efficiencies.

The Greenplum DBE will also be central in developing ongoing data strategy and architecting future systems while improving existing system design.

This role will work closely with the Database Administration and Data Ops teams around overall management of database systems including but not limited to design of schema (tables, constraints, indexes, primary and foreign keys), function and procedure design and tuning, underlying hardware’s effect on database system, database security, high availability & disaster recovery techniques.

Work in SDLC environment that requires 24/7 uptime.

Knowledge, Skills and Characteristics Bachelors in a computer related field or equivalent experience 4 years of experience working with Greenplum, Postgres, and other relational database technologies Expertise in data loading and processing within Greenplum database systems including development, optimization, automation, and troubleshooting Experiencing working with complex data warehouse projects as well as custom ETL processes Experience troubleshooting database and performance issues, as well as fine tuning of Postgres and Greenplum database systems and related queries Knowledge of PL/pgSQL, Greenplum, Advanced SQL, PLSQL Experience creating and troubleshooting Python scripts Knowledge of data modeling involving logical and physical data models Experience with data analytics, data vis, programming, and various database platforms Experience with scripting including shell, PERL, or Python Ability to read, implement, and optimize code and Greenplum configuration for optimal performance, including writing and tuning SQL for efficient execution Test and code advanced programs and debug advanced big data integration processes Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, management, and peers Helpful / Preferred Working knowledge of Unix/Linux and GemFire Experience with SAS, ETL, Informatica PowerCenter, Business Objects, and columnar databases, including Vertica, Apache Parquet, Teradata, and Greenplum Previous experience working in Azure and AWS environments Experience working in an Agile environment Other Some travel may be involved for both training and customer facing issues.
