Scope of Position:
This is a leadership position that requires a combination of organizational and technical strength to lead a global division engineering team.
This group provides equipment and automated systems integration solutions to Corning Life Science business to deliver best-in-class product integrity, process capability and asset optimization to our customers.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Maintain group and project budget oversight, provide regular spending reviews with management and control functions.
Identify and maintain appropriate equipment engineering talent to foster knowledge building.
Creation of an environment that drives to fundamental understand of equipment systems and their impact on product attributes.
Interface with Development, Engineering and Operating groups to ensure equipment systems meet product requirements and division objectives.
Develop/maintain short and long-term strategies for providing and supporting automated manufacturing systems and equipment to improve process performance, assure product quality, and support manufacturing capacity forecasts.
Drive delivery performance to exceed expectation.
Provide timely inputs and reports to customers and management on workload planning, project prioritization, and project updates.
Work closely with experienced professionals and a variety of cross functional groups (manufacturing, technology, IT, corporate engineering, etc.) to define, develop and implement new controls and automated systems for manufacturing processes and equipment.
Identify and support new technologies from mid
– stage development to a system ready for installation in a manufacturing environment.
Leverage external suppliers with key technologies or systems integration expertise to develop, order, procure, build, checkout and install manufacturing systems in Corning’s Life Science’s global production facilities.
Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products.
Assure equipment and systems are designed for safety and robustness.
Recruit, hire, integrate and retain talent into the organization.
Provide feedback, coaching tools to assist employees with career planning and performance evaluations.
Assure a safe workplace for employees (e.g.
safety checklists, safety training, etc.)
Travel Requirements:
25-50% travel, domestic and international.
Required Education:
BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering or related field
Required Years and Area of Experience:
10+ years’ work experience in manufacturing equipment/process/product development, systems integration, or SCADA system design and implementation
Engineering project leadership, program management, matrixed team leadership and demonstrated organizational savvy.
Required Skills:
Experience with mechanical system design, CAD
Experience integrating field devices for flow control, material and part handling, metering, motion control, temperature control, and associated safety systems into an overall systems package enabling a fully functional equipment platform.
Experience with PID control loop tuning and techniques
Familiar with electrical system design including control panel layouts, component selection, and schematics.
Ability to effectively communicate with internal customers and external vendors to understand equipment requirements and deliver results that are effectively interpreted and applied.
Implementation of technical programs according to their priorities and action plans.
