Founding Software Engineer (Education/Remote)

To help support the growth of one of our newest investments (Location: Bay Area/Remote), I’m looking to connect with software engineers passionate about moving the needle in education and would be comfortable coming in as an early hire.

About the Company:

The Founders (early employees of a multi-billion-dollar Edtech platform and passionate about redefining education) are aiming to foundationally reconstruct online education using social and technology.

The ideal candidate will have these key attributes:

Product thinking
– The ability to think about what we’re building from the customer point of view.

Even though we are engineers, we believe that the engineering team must empathize and build products with the customer in mind to build the best products.

Full-stack
– Comfortable moving up and down the stack.

It matters less that you know the exact frameworks and tools that we use, but you must be willing and able to learn very quickly.

We also mean full-stack across other functions outside engineering
– you should be excited to understand the entire business and learn from customers.

Craftsmanship
– You care about writing good code and building great software.

You understand the trade-offs when we have to move faster, but you know what perfect means and how to get there when we need to.

As our founding engineer, you will:

Build and shape our frontend and web application architecture
Work with world-class engineers to build a massively impactful product
Build or choose the tools that will help us iterate very quickly on product
Understand customers to figure out what we should be building and how we should build it

The following experience will be useful:

Built web or mobile products in Javascript/React/Angular/React Native
Made significant technological decisions for a product or company and stuck around to deal with the consequences
Worked in an environment where iteration time is very quick
– ideally with continuous integration
Rapid prototyping and knowing when to evolve prototypes to a production-ready state
