Facebook App: Systems Engineering Manager

We are looking for a talented, motivated leader for the Facebook Enterprise Infrastructure and Security AEGIS team.

This team collaborates with Research Engineers and Scientists to develop forward looking solutions, empowering them to create the future of Augmented and Virtual Reality.

This role will help proactively analyze the needs of Research groups and determine the best course of action to meet business objectives, develop short and long term strategy while driving day to day infrastructure execution for Facebook Reality Labs Research globally.This role will report up through and work directly with Enterprise Engineering leadership as well as cross-functional teams throughout Facebook.

Support the ARC engineers working with research teams on all aspects of GPU driven High Performance Computing environmentsPartner with Hardware and Production Engineering to enable SWEs and Data Scientists to manage, maintain and track face and body collectionEnsure Facebook standardization, automation and best practices across all platforms where possibleUnderstand technical architectures, capacity management, tooling needs, automation plans, product launch plans, and other issues and create comprehensive plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challengesPartner with Network Engineering, Storage, Compute, OS, Security, and TPM teams to plan and execute against a broad array of Scientific and Research Engineering needsWork closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing and interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and onboarding new employees.

Balance the need to keep things running with allocating time to long-term, high-impact strategic projectsHelp engineers develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their current skill levels as well as their long-term development, taking into account evolving strengths and capabilitiesAssess employee performance frequently, addressing under-performance, and recognizing, and promoting excellent performance 8 or more years of work experience in an Enterprise environment4 or more years of people management experience in an Enterprise environmentExperience working in an environment with multiple internal customers8 or more years of work experience in the field of Information TechnologyExperience with hiring and managing performance in an engineering organization.

Working knowledge of Linux and network fundamentalsExperience with coding in at least one language (even if it is not one that Facebook uses)Experience learning new software languages, frameworks, and APIsExperience designing and supporting infrastructure that supports complex, distributed architecturesBachelors Degree in Programming, Computer Science or equivalent work experience Master’s Degree in Computer ScienceExperience with High Performance Computing EnvironmentsExperience supporting Research-focused organizations Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
