Director, Individual Giving

Visiting Nurse Service of New York

This is a Full-time position in New York, NY posted July 28, 2021.

Overview Develops, coordinates and implements key Individual Giving fundraising strategies, including building and nurturing a pipeline of individual donors and prospects to raise funds for general support as well as specific VNSNY programs/initiatives.

Implements programs, involving the identification, cultivation, recognition, and stewardship of donors and prospects, including key members of VNSNY Board of Director.

Supports initiatives in collaboration with Development Officer.

Responsibilities Collaborates with VNSNY Leadership and Board of Directors Development Committee to translate organizational priorities into major gift fundraising opportunities, both short
– and long-term.

Leverages donor/prospect research and moves management techniques, retains and increases giving from a portfolio of identified major gift donors and prospects, comprising of individuals and key members of VNSNY Board of Directors.

Identifies major gift prospects from the VNSNY donor and prospect pool; work with donor tools and program staff.

Manages high-end individual giving program strategies and processes, including major gifts, mid-level direct mail, cultivation and fundraising events, planned giving and proposal writing/reporting and submissions to family/small foundations.

Collaborates with other individual giving team members.

Collaborates and meets with program staff to engage, share and generally include the broader organization in the role of philanthropy, including development orientations, attending program/department meetings, and overseeing the distribution of the Gifts of Gratitude within the relevant programs.

Oversees personalized acknowledgement of assigned donors as appropriate; manages the administration and maintenance of data relating to assigned donors and prospects in the department database; ensuring data integrity.

Provides support for Board of Director Development Committee meetings, including development of agenda, materials, meeting participation, etc.

Assists with planning and implementation of cultivation and other fundraising events for individual donors/prospects.

Participates in the development of department annual goals and accompanying OTPS budget.

Monitors performance and OTPS budget throughout year.

Prepares monthly and annual progress reports as well as special reports as needed for the Board of Directors, CEO and other internal departments such as Legal, HR and Marketing.

Performs all duties inherent in a managerial role.

Ensures effective staff training, interviews candidates for employment, evaluates staff performance and recommends hiring, promotions, salary actions, and terminations, as appropriate.

Performs other related duties and participates in special project, as assigned.

Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of seven years progressive fundraising experience in annual, mid-level, major and planned giving, preferably in a health care setting, required.

Minimum of two years in a supervisory role in a mid-large not-for-profit organization required.

A track record of successful performance in creating and nurturing donors and expanding revenue required.

Outstanding written/interpersonal communication skills required.

Excellent organizational and time management skills required.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all staff levels and board members within an organization, and ability to develop and maintain strong donor relationships required.

Knowledge of NYC philanthropic community and healthcare organizations preferred.

Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or other donor software, Microsoft Office and Excel required.
