Description of Work Unit

The Colorado State University Libraries is the heart of learning and research on campus, connecting curious minds to vital information and knowledge. The library system includes Morgan Library, the primary library, and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Library, a branch library located in CSUs James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Libraries mission is to curate inclusive collections and provide equitable access to materials and services critical to student success, research brilliance and community engagement. The Libraries employs approximately 80 faculty and staff and 100 student employees who collaborate to meet the informational needs of users in the Libraries physical and digital spaces.

The Library Technology Services team plays an important part in achieving the strategic goals and priorities of CSU Libraries (https://lib.colostate.edu/about/strategic-plan/) by administering, developing and supporting library applications and technologies. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the library, the university and the profession, we strive to create user centered systems that enhance discovery and preservation of knowledge resources and services

Position Summary

As part of a team of librarians and technologists, the person in this position will enhance and create innovative systems and technology solutions to meet operational needs and priorities of CSU Libraries. Using IT and project management best practices, this entry to intermediate level developer is responsible for application development and administration of systems and servers to support library operations including websites, integrations, the integrated library system, institutional repository, and discovery systems. CSU Libraries supports flexible work options including in-person, hybrid and/or fully remote options for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field OR Bachelors degree in any field plus minimum 2 years relevant professional experience

  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of applications using object-oriented programming, design patterns, and principles

  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the time of hire. CSU Libraries will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Professional experience in areas such as web development languages, principles, and best practices, database administration, Linux/Unix server administration, LAMP – and Windows-based development environments, Shibboleth/ SAML configuration and common data formats such as XML , JSON , CSV

  • Strong customer service ethic and ability to communicate technical knowledge to a diverse customer base

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, manage and complete multiple tasks on a daily basis in a high-volume work environment

  • Proven critical thinking skills with a demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and resolve issues through data collection, research, and troubleshooting

  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice and how they relate to the mission of the CSU Libraries.

Duty/Responsibility

Application development for complex custom built, open source and/or vended applications and projects consisting of multi-phased development efforts

Develop and maintain interfaces, integrations and secure data transfer processes for third-party systems and campus processes to meet business needs, including API interactions and data manipulation

Server administration (Unix or Windows) of virtual and physical servers as related to application development including maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, patching and security compliance

Responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, security compliance and refactoring of code as needed for existing applications

Document technical processes, procedures and code, and contribute to end user documentation and training as needed
